Dont get carried away...
by Guest on Dec 16, 2008 10:20 PM

The Chennai test had 95,000 in attendance and I wont take that as a sign of test cricket's popularity in India. I think its more to do with the venue - the knowledgeable cricket audience of Chennai. If you look at the numbers from the recently completed Aussie test series it is pretty evident that the interest in test cricket is looking bleak.
Chennai crowd is one of a kind, they will come and watch test cricket even if its Zimbabwe vs. Kenya!!

sachin the great
by raja on Dec 16, 2008 10:11 PM  | Hide replies

to all those sachin bashers who says he fails in second innings, only gavaskar and ponting have four fourth innings cenuries next is sachin with three.lara and steve waugh have two each.second innings average of sachin is 37 which is same as lara and many other great players except ponting, dravid and few.to open question to all who is a better and complete player than sachin:
1)lara:no where near sachin in odis both didnot win worldcup but sachins performance in world cup is farsuperior and atleast sachin has won a minimum of 10 tournament where as windies barely reached one or two.as far as testmatches yes lara is superior but the difference is not as wide.lara has more high scores but sachin was more consistent.lara has got two great innings both against aussies 213 and 153.sachin
has got 155 against aussies and 103 against england.if u properly analyse sachin has got more matchsaving and matchwinning innings than lara but yes lara is a marginally better test player.
2)inzamam:pathetic test performances overseas.single great innings against bangladesh.part of worldcup winning team but 96,99,2003,2007were dismal.
3)dravid and ganguly:both are great and they were better players than sachin for a shorter period but have lost their way.
4)ponting and :i rate him nearest to sachin but let us see how he plays in this aussie team without their superstars.
iam not degrading any of them iam just telling thatevery player has got deficiencies and somehow all of u are so prefixed

about sachins deficiencies and think that all other players are superhumans.is it possible to score at strike rate of sehwag, consistency of hayden, flair of lara, finishing talent of bevan, play spinners like deseliva, play newball bowles like gavaskar, hit six sixes like yuvraj, field like raina come on all these qualities u want in a single player?is it possible? u will realise how great sachin was after he retires.i bet india will miss sachin no dought at all

Well said. Indians should feel proud about winning the arjuna and other awards. Having said that, I dont see any need to critique the English. These guys are brave souls that came back and gave a great game of cricket. your anger is quite misplaced. I laud Peterson and his men for being here and doing a great job!

Restore India's glory !!
by Proud Indian on Dec 16, 2008 09:39 PM  | Hide replies

It was sad that no one complimented and congratulated Kevin Pietersen and the English team and the England Cricket Board and their spectators who had come back. They just could have made excuses after they were drubbed 5-0, sulked and not come back after seeing the gory images on TV and after their kit was still in the Taj. You might all say that they were eyeing contracts in the IPL. Life is more important than money. Hats off to England for restoring our psyche to normal levels. Why haven't the BCCI given a fat purse to them also and also to the foreigners who died during the carnage?? Aren't they also human beings - doesn't matter if they are rich or not??? It would send a positive image of our country to the entire world?? and you all can expect more foreign tourists also coming in due to that gesture..Hear that the foreigners have refused compensation because it is too low??? Hear that the govt is giving free tickets and accomodation for tourists who come for the 3rd time. What about the 1st and 2nd time??? Don't we know that 12 % of our GDP revenues come from tourism?? What about other business and other contracts and concerts that have been affected ?? What about fear psychosis????

Good point. KP and his team needs a special compliment for coming over to India and playing the matches. A token of appreciation is enough, not a fat purse.

What a Test match
by Shankar on Dec 16, 2008 08:05 PM  | Hide replies

It was a test match of a lifetime. I did not see India chase 414 runs for victory against west Indies but I could watch this match.
Three cheers to batting of Sehwag, Sachin and Yuvraj. It was a treat to watch.

That was 404. Incidentally, at one point of time, India hold all the 4th innings records for the highest scorers to achieve a win, a loss (437 or 438 against England), a tie (342 against Aus) and draw.

You should seriously consider taking English classes. Or you would find yourself kicked out of Oz onto the Indian Ocean. If that happens please do not come back to India.
