We are talking about Best Batsman
by koustav s on Sep 28, 2007 06:52 PM  | Hide replies

We are not talking about who won more matches for his team. The Best batsman is one who has better record, better technique, runs against all teams all over the world and whome bowlers respect most....In all these SACHIN SCORES MORE THAN LARA-SO HE IS THE WINNER

well plz guys dnt mind my word. m a grt fan of sachin. and like his cricket other than any one else.... but one fact is there for sure... he moslty fails in the deciding matches ( like final ) he fails to make his contribution...

remember whn pak got 314 and india hass to get 315 of 48 overs in dhaka.. he gt out early and almost every bats men too but somehow gnaguly manged tht time to carry one and won for india.. u know scahin and ganguly is the best pair in world cricket...in so many finals sachin failed....

m again saying the not criticizing sachin but jus countring those who says if he gt the best stats he is the best.. my dear the best one is who win matches for his team... steave waugh, ricky ponting.. they won so many matches from where its next to impossible to win the game btu they won.. so he is best. still coz he has got immence pressure coz he single handedly take away matches from the opponent. but bst is the one who can handle pressure most of the times. and i feel steave waugh was the one who handled the most. in his time. but yes till he and ganguly is thr in the team the team is more strongest than any other team

Nitin sir do u remeber 1998.. India won 7 or 8 series in that year... In all finals sachin made 100s. only in 1 final sachin could make any run and india lost in that series.. Go and open cricinfo and check the statistics of 1998 matches...

Sachin better than Lara?
by Bodh Ramdeo on Sep 28, 2007 06:48 PM

Advancing age does not automatically spell doom for certain types of sport, and cricket is one of them, being a not-too-physical game. At 34, Sachin still has many years of cricket ahead of him if he's fit and capable, which he seems to be. So all this talk of being better or worse than Lara or anyone else is besides the point. What matters is whether he's still capable of playing good cricket, and the answer is yes, sort of.

He played that when his back was hurting! and the other team member could not get the required 'few' runs! Will Sachin always remain a ONE MAN ARMY? What are the others in the team doin? Tendulkar scored 136 but India lost to Pakistan by just 12 runs - 12 runs!!!!!

28 Jan to 1st Feb 1999, 1st test India vs Pakistan, Chennai: It was the first time that India and Pakistan were playing a test match on Indian soil for 12 years and the first ever test series between the two countries since 1989. Sachin was dismissed for a duck in the first inns by off spinner Saqlain Mushtaq. But Sachin more than made up for it by scoring 136 in the second inns and almost took India to an unlikely win. India were 82/5 in their second essay chasing 271 to win. Sachin battled back spasms and a pumped up Pakistani team with a superb blend of defence and attack. He carried on and when India were just 17 runs away from their target he fell victim to Saqlain again. His wicket gave the Pakistanis a new lease of life and they polished off the lower order to complete a thrilling 12 run win. That was the first time fans saw Sachin wince in pain on a cricket field and although he won the man of the match award it was little consolation for Sachin who broke down in the dressing room after he saw India being beaten from a seemingly winning position.

Unni,

Despite of being injured, Sachin scored a century in India's run chase at Chennai against Pak . If all other remaining 5 batsmen put togather 15 runs which was balance when he got out what was his fault?

Hey Suresh Joshi

You marathi People can not digest other's success, You mean to say Dhoni has prooved whatever that is by luck, you do not know about cricket. You need to learn many thing about cricket. Results always proof.
This is just about a story - A student do lot of hard work, maximum time only reading but result says - he is not upto the mark as per hard work. Whereas in the other side A student does the things properly with perfect timing, using perfect brain and getting the result - FIRST CLASS with DISTCN.

Because DHONI has given the world cup after a 24 years and which sachin failed miserly in 5 world cup what he played, that is the reason you can not digest. Get some TAB.

Kumar you must be writing this message from Mumbai, You people come to Mumbai for bread & butter & at the same time you starts commenting on our Marathi culture. You always forget that you are staying in one of the safest place in India where no body is bothering you nobody wants to poke his nose in your life. So why you are blaming Marathi people? Our Mr. Sharad Pawar invited Dhoni & his team to Mumbai, he felicited them. It was one of the great welcome I ever seen & that too after hectic night of Ganesh Visarjana & still you blame Marathi people if Marathi people can not digest Dhoni's success they would not have gathered in such large nos to welcome Dhoni! We love cricket & we love every great performer from any corner of the Country.

A great pity, your thought process Kumar.
Dhoni has to go a long long way before, forget his captaincy, his place in the side is permanent. He is just a few years old to cricket, and it is well to leave him to do his job. 20-20 was indeed lucky for India, players, advertisers etc. period. But t is not the real cricket like ODI's nad test matches.
Well about Sachin.
In the last WC in the finals he failed. he was the highest run scorer of the WC tournament and one match he could not go ahed, when you stare at 350 odd runs to chase!
You know who lost us that match?
Our great successful captain Ganguly!
you know why?
After winning the toss he elected to field against Australia.
i do not know if you will understand waht i am trying to say & by the way i am not a Marathi.
Cheers!

"sachin failed miserly in 5 world cup" i think u meant miserably!! look at world cups prior to 2007 .. the runs he has sored... the team failed him .. he did not fail the team! Cicket is a team game not a one man army as it has been for the past one decade... a captain is as good as his team... if other players wudnt have played well.. dhoni wud have not got the cup. Kudos to the young lads of india! just 'cos india did well and won the cup, does not give u a license to call the GREATS of indian cricket 'miserable'

100% agree. all the players have to be united and play for india. then only they can win the cup for. look this time...everybody has contricuted in diffrent games. whn gambhir got out yuvi made, whn he fails other player made and so on... also wickets os its team effort who can win matches for ur team but not single player.. sachin did it past but my dear he only scored half runs wt if other players failed to make run.. so sachin made his contribution more than 100% but the other players also needed to be participate to make a team win not oonly personalize win.

Dhoni's record = winning a world cup. And sachin do not have this record because he fails to deliver in the matches that matter the most. Agreed that it has to be a team effort. But Sachin is the leader of indian cricket, and we need leaders to deliver on finals/ pressure situations and for last 18 years Sachin consistently fails to deliver at that time.

by Rakesh Prasad on Sep 28, 2007 06:31 PM

Well both r great players, butIf somebody asks me who is no. 1, I would put Lara, most of his centuries are big centuries and he also has a 400 in his name. But the moment tendulkar gets his centuries, he feels his job is done. Whether he should be in the team, he definitely deserves to be there, not only because of his past records but also because of his present form.

The man has scored 4 scores of 90 and a 71, 55 in the last 12 innings in the One day internationals.u all know he recvd 2 very rough decisions in the last few matches.he had carried the team to a cup win in ireland, lifted the team from 1-3 to series decider in Lords before he was wrongly given out on 30.the guy was instrumental in the resurgence of the team after the world cup.come on, Give him a break. stop talking rubbish.a player who plays selfishly would never have a strike rate of 85. he has an astonishing average of 119 in the 84 matches india won where he has scored above 45-his career average( 29 out of 41 centuries have given a win for india, 49 out of 83 fifties too).if india lost 48 matches in which he has scored 45 and above, with 11 hundreds and 33 fifties, it is not his mistake, because even in these lost matches, he has an average of 84. what do you expect him to do?to score 200 in 100 balls and take all 10 wickets? cricket is a team game. there are 10 other players in the team who should be as responsible as him.cricket is not an individual sport.every one should add their weight and pull the team to victory. if you consider the fact that, india has won 196 matches he has played,he has picked up 92 wickets in those wins, with 22 times 2 wickets and more.surely in the 177 matches we have lost, the 10 other players could have played a winning hand.great cricketers and critics know about the greatness of sachin and have acknowledged his contribution so many times.

in the recent series, the team won all the 3 matches where he and saurav have laid a solid foundation of 100 run opening partnership. he has been giving good starts to the team time and again.if u hav knowledge on first class cricket, you will realise that different pitches, different balls, and different weather conditions create huge challenges for the batsmen, especially openers with the new ball.the bowlers have 60 balls to bowl and can correct their mistake in line and length if they make a mistake in one ball or in one over, but the batsman have just one chance generally and if they are very lucky a couple
of lives(of late tho' Sachin has been receiving bad decisions).it is not at all easy life out there on the pitch. added to that the unbelievable expectations from the large indian fans, the burden is huge.the youngsters who have won the world 20-20 have done a great job and kapil's devils have surprised in 1983 cup, because there was virtually no expectations at all from us when they went out.

after the great reception, the players will come under pressure of expectation.then their natural game will be affected.you cant expect sachin to play like Afridi, his role is far more crucial in the team.even if the new team is doing well, they should learn from seniors about consistency and perform well in different surfaces against quality teams.

Dravid in both tests and ODI's for 4 more years, sachin am sure,2 years depending on fitness and saurav on form for 2-3 years.

entire world know sachin is a good batsman and he is one of a key player of teamindia. But what hurt us is sachin = teamindia others = 0
which never ever acceptable to any self respecting real indian cricket fan. Look this T20 india won the match without the god of cricket. It clearly highlights that talented players other than sachin are there who has the strength to achieve the impossible for india, which truth pls do not forget. Sorry again..
