As we all know that Eden gardens is considered to be the mecca of cricket...any cricketer would love to play there. As far as I know the Eden crowds have always been special. I have seen the epic 2001 test match between Ind-Aus and i have also seen the applause that all the players got for whatever they did...specially sachin. I hope sincerely that the fiasco that happened the lat time was just an aberration and the Edene crowd would make it up this time with 90,000 people packed into the stadium. I wish I was there to listen to the deafening crowd. Make it up EDEN!

But Rohan plays and Sunil is yet to discard Rohan. Eden and Kolkata are great melting pots. Bengal with emoptions embraced all like Arun Lal, Ashok Malhotra, Rohan. Dropping Saurav was a wrong decision proved at the end. Bengalis understand cricket as good as everyone else. Hence there was a spontaneous outburst. Do not compare it with the dropping of any other player. Just imagine the humiliation- Captain till the other day-most successful captain treated as persona non grata. Just out of form for a few games and you insult the most faithful and patriot person like Saurav who rescued the team from match fixers and bookies. The public outburst at Eden though not justified, was not unpredictable either in the circumstances whatever blame you like to put on the Eden crowd. This emoptional Eden crowd was never parochial. Once they roared 'no Kapil, no test' when other places of India remained silent. Although happy for India's win they gave a standing ovation to Asif Iqbal who faught valiantly for his country in his life's last game at Eden. So be logical and appreciate the nature of Eden crowd. Do not mistake exuberance for mischief. All the best. Good night.

My wishes are with the Indian team so that they make Srilankans look like a team, which will never challenge the Indians neither at their own backyard nor in India. Let's hope the team including the dada plays some cricket. My support is with the Indian team not for one single player, which the Kolkata people are famour for. They are very biased people in one word and has never shown respect towards any of the Indian players, which the other player state have shown towards the local hero. These people will never learn to respect.

then who said u to support india please donot support our team is capable of winning without you
Eighty eight thousand Eden tigers would be roaring in joy for every run scored by the Indians and every fall of SL wickets. Good cricket from the opposititon will also be cheered as long as that stops short of losing the match for India. Those who insulted the Eden crowd on rediff post and are not fortunate to make it to the stadium, just turn your sets on and see the sea of humanity, appreciative audience. Perhaps you would also feel missing the chance to be a part of it. Pray for a good game and win for India in the end. Thanks.

Some cricket fans humilated ind team especially dravid even before the match started during the odi match against SA there were newsreport that they tried to hit dravid sachin chappell But it was unforutnate that same ppl forgot dravid's contributions to ganguly's success as captain in odis as well as test.dravid's fault was he made captain and ganguly was out of team. the way crowd were shouting slongans, carrying evil posters, clasping for SA team, even WBCA did not serve morning breakfast to team india. this time ganguly is in team hope things will be different lots of cheers and prayers to dravid to achieve 10ks in odis and best of luck to team india.

I agree with you that these people have really behaved too much against the Indian team when it played in Kolkata. They will never learn to respect players.

You and Suman are perhaps real Gangulyites. Because of your provocations Ganguly dicussions are carried on rediff pages. Thanks.

One should feel their country should win in the match, irrespective whether their favorite player in the team or not. That was a pathetic incident I have seen as of now by audience.

Those people will never learn how to appreciate good cricket. The amount of respect Saurav's has earned from the country people, not even an inch the spectator out there will give to the Indian team. What if Saurav was injured. Do you think that the Eden Garden crowd would have turned up for the match. No never. Their support is only for the dada and not for anyone else. How dare you people say that you will hit a player like Sachin.
I am cricket fan since I got matured enough to understand cricket. Further, to this I take this opportunity to say the Saurav Ganguly (DADA) is a great cricketer and will remain.............

RE:RE:Ganguly the Great Cricketer by Indra Sengupta on Feb 06, 2007 07:02 PM What behaviour? Who down? Find any other cricketer so focussed, so matured and so strong mentally. Entire India came beside him during his bad days. What behaviour?
Why? Not for nothing. Ganguly is an exception. You put him in-he shines. You remove him he dazzles. Just a bit of bad patch which happens to any cricketer and he is removed. A mediocre jumping cricketer turned selector removes him with a contemptuous smile and removes the most successful leader of all times as if he is nothing. If something terrible and abnormal happens in the dressing room you expect the man digest everything silently? It requires a lot of guts to expose the false allegation against a captain by the coach. These outbursts came at the right time and Cahappel has also come to his senses. This would not have been possible had Saurav remained silent. People like you with very little knowledge of facts, cricket and patriotism support this. Who agrees with whom? Blinds disapproving a masterpiece painting? Deaf dismissing good music? Who agrees with whose views on Sourav? Good or bad?
Man, Gangulys appear in this world very rare. Look at the face, look at the grace, and look at the emotions. Look at his pleasures, look at his pains, and look at the man who is a commander. Look at him who rescued Indian cricket from the bookies.
Look at the man who charged the averages and ordinaries in to performers. You guys put pedestrians and soldiers ahead of the leader.

Ganguly is only politician cricketer. He is the only player who used politicians's influence to be seleted for team. Even laxman is out of team but he is not making any noise. today some ohd'kaif's fans in Kanpur burn effigy of Vengsarkar for not giving chance to kaif. laxman , kaif both deserve a chance in team and both are proven good players. only drawbakc is both have not godfather in bcci or political backup to influence selection committe indrasengupta never mention ganguly's dadagiri in his poem.

So selectors succumb to political pressures, you mean, even for a player from weak Bengal lobby!!! So you mean political pressure is the only way to get selected and remain in the team!!! So all the players are selected by influencial politicians overtly or covertly! You are a bullshit man with little sense. You blind forget the performances, scores, averages, wins and sixes caused by Ganguly. A guy like you creates problems everywhere. You never have anyone respectful to you, in family, studies, offices, locality or anywhere. You may be having some faithful bartenders sending you back to your den around midnight. Irrational voices like you should be gagged forever. Go climb a lamppost and cry hoarse your theory till you are rescued by fire brigade and let Ganguly perform match after match. Doesn't matter.
RE:RE:RE:Ganguly the Great Cricketer

ganguly's success was b'ucz of contributions of sachin, laxman, kumble and dravid. laxman and kumble were out of odis team even after the good performance b'cuz they were not fit in good book of ganguly. ganguly humiliated dravid sahflling him batting order and making him wkt keeper. As media presented dravid made wkt keeper to sort out battign order of ganguly himself b'cuz sehwag moved to opening slot. ganguly called sachin as touriest ... whole country knows ganguly selection was of political pressure but covered by media as experienced bla... now laxman and kaif is out of the odi team but they are not making any noise . even today some fans burn effigies of vengsarkar in kanpur for not selecting kaif but it was not big news in media b'cuz kaif like laxman not has not much support from politicians.

Bhai Bhat, at the end of the day what matters the most is runs & u, me or even god can't say that Sourav is not making the runs. The type of willpower he has is something extraordinary and this is very rarely seen in Indian cricketers. Let's support him and hope for the best for the World Cup which in any case people like me and you want India to win.

my friend, dont try to be too much in favour of ganguly...... who can say that there was no influence in ganguky's inclusion in the team? anyways now we have to expect that he will perform and moreover team india as a whole will perform. it is materialistic for us if we win the matches.

Emotional Eden Crowd by Indra Sengupta on Feb 07, 2007 12:13 AM | Hide replies
All Eden and Bong haters. Rohan plays and Sunil is yet to discard Rohan. Eden and Kolkata are great melting pots. Bengal with emotions embraced all like Arun Lal, Ashok Malhotra, Rohan Gavaskar, Paras Mamray, Ghauri, Saba Karim. Dropping Saurav was a motivated biased and wrong decision proved at the end. Bengalis understand cricket as good as everyone else. Hence there was a spontaneous outburst against the humiliation of the idol, just when he was coming back to his form and scored a century. Do not compare it with the dropping of any other player. Out of Saurav Sachin Dravid trio only Saurav had to face the humiliation not only from Chappel but also from More who was just an average batsman and average wicket keeper. Just imagine the humiliation- Captain till the other day-most successful captain treated as persona non grata. Out of form for a few games and they insulted the most faithful and patriotic person like Saurav who rescued the team from match fixers and bookies, in Azharuddin Jadeja days. The public outburst at Eden though not justified, was not unpredictable either in the circumstances whatever blame you like to put on the Eden crowd. This emotional Eden crowd was never parochial. Do never doubt their allegiance. Respect emotions of the Eden crowd. What is a man without emotions? Only the criminals like serial killers do not have emotions All the best. Good night.
