Saurav to open the innings.
by Upadrasta PardhaSaradhi on Dec 15, 2007 06:46 PM  | Hide replies

If saurav is not happy with his batting position at number 5 and want to bat higher batting position, ask him to open the innings with jaffer. Yuvi will come into team. 2 problems solved. this guy argued with Dravid and the team managment when they asked him to open the innings when team needed a opener. Now he cries about not getting chance to bat higher in the order. He was a captian for 5 years and if he wants, he always can bat at any number he wants. He once exchanged lakshman and dravid's batting order, but he never him self changed his batting order to come higher in the order.

Great Dravid never faced genius bowler to bcum great ha ha ha

Dravid is a great batsman but technically he is no where near Sachin or Laxman.

He needs to workhard to score his runs lacks the efforless elegance of Laxman or the flair and attacking ability of Sachin.

Finally Sachin has scored his runs against the best of pace bowlers Ambrose, Walsh, Bishop, Imran, Arram, Younis, Hadlee, McDermott, Donaldo, Pollock, Cairns, McGrath, Reeve and many others when they were at thier peak, taking them to cleaners.

Dravid, cmon if you ignore his two double hundreds against Pakistan and Australia where does he stand? Even those match winning centuries came against weak bowling attack on a placid wicket.

Dravid has scored his bulk when the wickets were standardized, boundary ropes reduced by 10meters and the overall pace bowling and swing has gone poor...Adelaide Oval and Rawalpindi and Eden Gardens being prime examples of lifeless tracks.
Even for those runs he had grinded out weak bowling attacks rather than dominating unkike Sachin.

Dravid as a whole is agreat batsman but please do not compare him with the little master

the little master is the most selfish batsman in the present team india. that is why he is being denied by god the 42nd century since he has done bad to the country previously now god is doing bad to him now

....further more...I've always mentioned these points whenever some one highlights Dravids superiority

1) Eden Gardens Wicket: The wicket was dead from day 2..Typical Kolkata wicket where even Azharuddin scored big hundreds. The Aussie attack had McGrath , Gillespie and Warne..McGrath was never quick in the air so he is never a big threat in the subcontinetal conditions, Please check his overall records against India Srilanka and Pakistan back hime and Warne is never a threat for any Indian batsman. Once Laxman countered Gillspie Dravid played a second fiddle and scored 180...Its a
more about application than ability and Dravid scored

2) Adelaide Oval: Worst (Dead) wicket in Australia with very short square boundaries and
a batting heaven. Check the Aussie Pace attack. A double hundred on a lifeless track against second striing Australian attack.

3) Rawalpindi: Another dead track..The only batting track more worse than kotla. Even Mark Taylor the worst lefthander ever to played for Australia score 333 agaisnt the same substandard Pakistan Attack on that wicket.

These are the three big test innings that appaise Dravid but as hyped by blinkered Rahul Dravid fans these arent great achievements either if you analyze objectively.

Finally

Dravid has a greatest technique..I beg to differ, he has a great temperament.

His average is now 55.

Also he once average 439 in a four test series agaisnt Zimbabwe after getting dismissed once..Andy Flower scored 600 runs in the series.

Against Zimbabwe in alone test he averaged 129 and also against very weak New Zealand he averaged 120 in dry placid wicket at home.

If fans remove these innings (also runs) against weak teams on dead conditions, Dravids average comes down just to 48.

Regarding his so called technique, there are alot many batsman as good as him if not better and easily more Aggressive De Silva, Jayawardane, Atapattu, Yousuf Youhana, Vaughan to name a few.

I feel batsman Dravid as a whole is overhyped by this jinguistic Indian Media and his ignorant bunch of followers

Ok. Good. But finally the fact of the matter is he scored over 9683 runs with an average of 55.97 with 24 centuries and 49 fifities in test matches and scored 10585 runs with an average of 39.49 with 12 centuries and 81 half centuries.

these statisitcs speaks volumes for his greaness and those who criticises Dravid dont know what they r speaking and dont know anything about cricket.

speaking of technicality.....all sachins shots are on the onside and legside like the ladies play.

pure cricketing shots is any one has to learn as an youngster then please learn from dravid and not from any one else in indian team.
not even ganguly(lucky),tendulkar(selfish) or laxman(god knows).
each and every run scored by dravids bat are pure cricketing shots....
if u don know cricket then please dont comment by reading news papers

No doubt .. what ever the statistics you compare ... dravid is the one among the Top 5 test batsman in the world .. he was praised by all the legends .. and all the quality bowlers like shane, glen for this technique and temparament ... ofcourse his form is bit sluggish now .. he will bounce back ... one other stats about dravid is ..his away average is better than his home average .. which means .. his away average stands nealy 70 .. which no one holds for 10 years ...

how many times india toured Zimm & kiwis ? .. Kiwi pitches are even dificult one to bat on ..

Ganguly great -after 11 yrs of int'l cricket in 99th test first double 100 , NO 20 in icc test ranking after 7 yrs for the first time

2 good innings he started blabering in media on the flat pitich, insipid bowling even pathan scored 100 if umpiring was done as per rules ganguly would not have scored 50s in kolkata or blr.if ganguly feels he missed so many 100s he should open in test also like in odis.
in odis sachin and ganguly open innings when enough balls to face without pressure of increasing runrate can build innings slowly. |but in test when ball is new shining, it will be very difficult to bat on bouncy green past ptiches that with morning dues help fast bowlers.
dravid batted no 1 to 7 in odis as per team requirement and five bad innings he was out of odi team
even ganguly;s last five innigns in odis were not upto the standard as a opener
will chief selector will shown the door to gnaguly and ask him to prove his form and fitness
in tests dravid always batted down in order when one of opening batsman lost score was noteven double fighres. dravid and jafer scored runs and made comfortable platform for middle order batsman to carry batting ..so batsman bats at no 4, 5 and 6 have advantage and ball getting old it will come to bat easy to play strokes
ganguly's batting can not be compred to dravids in odis or test. ganguly in odis played most of time as opener and dravid was promoted down in order when team trouble otherwise at no 6 or 7 where less balls to face with pressure of increasing runrate
In test dravid most of innings literally opening and carry pressure with jaffer. ganguy shoul

gnaguly was arguaing with dravid during last pakistani tour when he was asked to open innings now he is complaing that he did not get a chance to bat up in order
it was dravid who batted in diff positions as per team requirement never opened his mouth in front of media

I am still doubt on dravid in ODI, how could he managed to get 10 K runs.

Basically he was never a ODI batsman, he is the slowest player of teh world in strike rate.. It was ganguly" s mistake to keep dravid in ODI as wicket keeper batsman, and that spoiled whole ODI matches. In that case, I would like to blame ganguly for this.. Selectors have take good decision to keep dravid out of ODI squad. they shd have done this at least 5 years ago..

So pathetic captain, lost 1st round of WC.

hese medias are agaisnt ganguly@s and his success..

They have not provided whole interview. I have seen the whole interview, you need to know on which conext he said so. Ona typical question asked by jounalist about his number of century, then he said about it.

He said many things, but media put the things in wrong way to humilate ganguly

This could only happend to ganguly because this time ganguly batted at noumber 4, got max strike to complete double century.

Otherwise ganguly comes at number 5 and 6, so cant get strike to complete century.

ANd Dravid is the slowlest player of the world, having strike rate below 30 almost in evry matches, creates pressure to lower order batsman to perform on higher strike rate, thats why lower order indian batsman like gangly and laxman cant scre many runs in test matches.

Ganguly openned his test career @ number 3 postion and got a century there.

Please read the whole interview on ibnlive dot come website,

Nishant arora: And getting a double hundred that was missing in your career. Must be a very special feeling?

Sourav Ganguly: It is, but I have batted lower down the order a lot of times. Rahul used to bat at three and Sachin at four, I used to bat at five, six. And I missed quite a few hundreds. We didn't have a wicketkeeper-batsman like Dhoni or Dinesh karthk, who would support the batsman who are batting at five and six. So me and Laxman have suffered a lot, in terms of getting hundreds. But it also helped that I got to bat at number four in this Test

Impartial analysis on cricinfo:
Sourav Ganguly, the Man of the Series in India's recent series against Pakistan, has attributed his tremendous success to batting at No.4. Ganguly, mostly a No.5 or 6 batsman, walked in at No.4 in three of the six innings, notching up scores of 46, 239 and 91 from that position, and felt he could have had more hundreds in his career had he batted higher throughout.

"I got to bat at No. 4 in this series and it helped me," he told CNN-IBN, an Indian news channel, after enjoying his most successful three-match series in close to a decade. "I have batted lower down the order for a lot of time and Rahul [Dravid] used to bat at No. 3 and Sachin [Tendulkar] came at four. As a result, I had to bat at five or sometimes six and I missed quite a few hundreds because we did not have wicketkeeper-batsmen like Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Dinesh Karthik earlier. These guys support people batting at five or six. But me and [VVS] Laxman suffered in terms of getting hundreds," he added.

Ganguly began his Test career at No. 3 but managed only 16 more chances in that position. He has batted at No. 4 in 18 innings but the majority of his career has been from Nos. 5 (84) and 6 (39). He managed a hundred from No. 5 in the second Test of the recent series, a memorable one in front of his home crowd in Kolkata, and was sent in at No. 4 in the second innings to speed up the scoring-rate. An injury to Tendulkar meant he walked in at No. 4 in the final Test too, one where
