Captain Dravid and the team were perfectly justified in appealing against Inzamam

sportsmanship?
by Vimal on Feb 09, 2006 05:00 PM

Inzi, sportsmanship would have been to continue to bat for the remainng 3 overs where the light was as good as for the previous 8-10 overs. In the true sense of the game we would have an acceptable result.

However Inzi's laziness and lethergy on the field is well known all over the world and more to supress the embarassment all over, Inzi is resorting to such statements.

Inzi, it is more laughable than anything else so better take it with humour and dont blame Indian team for appealing.

Inzamam's dismissal
by pavan kanago on Feb 09, 2006 04:10 PM

I feel it was perfectly within the rules in the manner in which Inzy was given out in the 1st ODI. All the hue and cry about the so called "against the spirit of the game attitude of India" in PAK media clearly shows their double standards. In the Kolkata match between India & Pak where were these people when Sachin was made to walk back by an obstructing Shoaib. Moin Khan who now is grumbling about Rahul Dravid has conveniently forgotten that he "ate" wicket of Saurav Ganguly in that Chennai test match. The ball had clearly touched the ground before Moin took the catch.

It is high time these Pakis know what to accuse. First let them set their deeds right, then think about levelling any charges against us.

Needless disputation.
by M.R.Srinivasan on Feb 09, 2006 04:08 PM

Having regard to the full circumstances of the appeal as held justifiable by the field-umpires who had no hesitation in upholding it , where is the scope for further arguments as are being carried on now? If the player had obstructed when the ball was still active there ends the matter, and questions of propriety, or spirit of the game will not enter our calculus. The game was crucial for the visiting team as much as it was deemed for the hosts,as proved by the bizarre result under D/L rule !

Keep It up Dravid
by Deep on Feb 09, 2006 03:47 PM

Yes Dravid we are with you. & what you said is correct. it is shameless on inzi's part that he has raised his anger on his foolish reaction.

The best way to defend is attcak & that is what Inzi is doing. Imagine a Great Batsmen like Inzi being scared of a ball & to hide this fact he has to say somthing to divert minds of pakistani crowed. If pak has lost the match then pakistani crowed would not have spared Inzi. But in the joy of victory no one noticed Inzi terror for ball. I think Indian batsmen are great because they plays bowling of akhtar which pakastani can not face & are scared.

But now our bowlers have to perform & win the series 4-1 because 1 billion people have hopes.

Good luck

Inzy's obstruction
by Srini on Feb 09, 2006 03:29 PM

Raina's throw was a genuine attempt to run Inzy out.Had Inzy not batted out the throw to suit his convenience- which he did to avoid turning his bulk around and lunge for the crease-was there not a chance that the ball hit the stumps directly, with Inzy stranded out of the crease ? So, where is the question of the appeal being unsportsman like?
Team India did what any sane team would do under the circumstances. So, trash the allegations, Team India, your spirits are in the right place !!

Inzy

If inzy have not stop that ball by bat, He was definately out for that throw In this way He doesn't have any right to talk abt. sportsmanship of game. He actually spoiled the game by further interepting in the Umpire decision.

Pakistan have been guilty too
by Vijay Padiyar on Feb 09, 2006 03:15 PM

There's a lot of brouhaha regarding whether it was unsportsmanlike for India to have appealed against Inzamam shielding the ball and preventing it from hitting the stumps.

If this was unsporting, how about the time when Sachin Tendulkar was declared run-out when his bat was raised above the ground just when the ball hit the stumps, due to him colliding into Shoaib Akhtar? Wasn't that unsporting? India suffered a huge blow in that innings due to that wicket as Sachin was playing very well.

I don't remember there being so much criticism of it then as there is now of this incident, particularly from the cricketers involved.

Nothing against Inzamam, but he must realize these things happen.
