Akash Chopra
by R. N. Bose on Apr 11, 2004 08:11 PM

This is in response to Faisal Shariff's last comment: "Pick your team on form". I believe he means "current" form. If that be so, who should be dropped but Sachin Tendulkar, for no other reason but that he has lost his form. He can always get back his place when he regains form which, no doubt, he is bound to - sooner than later. But that should not happen at the cost of the team or team morale, and he be given endless opportunities on the one hand - while (on the other hand) poor Akash Chopra gets the axe for no fault of his.

Who should stay out?
by Abhishek on Apr 11, 2004 07:51 PM

The last line of the article is perhaps the biggest statement of courage in last few months. However, I wished that same courage be shown by Ganguly himself.
If Soemone has to be out because of a poor run in last (few) match(es), then, "professionally" 'Dada' should be the one to set example. He should keep himself out of the team rather asking a new budding solid opening batsman to stay out. He should recall one of the main reasons for winning two tests (and drawing one) on the foreign soil. Both times (Aus & Pak) it was a solid 100+ runs opening wickets partnership, and a contribution from a middle order batsman.
The Mr. captain should realize that he has to prove his fitness and form before claiming a place in the team like others did it in the past.
Wishing the wish gets fulfilled and an example is set the world over....

Drop Laxman or Dravid
by Muralidhar Rao on Apr 11, 2004 07:50 PM

Why is everybody bent on axing Chopra? If Yuvraj and Ganguly need to be accommodated then Dravid or Laxman need to be dropped from the team. What have Dravid and Laxman done so far on this test tour? Absolutely zilch. India lost the second test also because of an unfit Agarkar and a tired Kumble besides the ass Bucknor. If India had included Trivedi, Munaf Patel or Bhandari at Lahore things could have been different. But the pundits are still depending on unfit players like Zaheer, Nehra and Agarkar. India chose to play an unfit Agarkar and a tired Kumble who was useless on a pitch that helped medium fast bowlers. This besides Bucknor who has determined to make India lose no matter what.

Chopra deserved 2 more test matches to prove his abilities.
by Amit on Apr 11, 2004 07:39 PM

I think Chopra has been wronged. Now what if Yuvraj Singh fails in the next 6 innings as an opener ? Will Ganguly revert back to Chopra ? I think by that time Chopra would be probably playing domestic cricket and will not be in the reckoning for sometime.I think Shiv Sunder Das and Akash Chopra should open the batting when India tours and Sehwag should open when India is playing in home conditions.Shiv Sunder Das is a percentage player and has the technique to combat the best opening bowlers in the world.Sehwag is an aggressive player who can excel in home conditions.

Drop whom?????????
by Prince on Apr 11, 2004 07:17 PM

Hello friends!!
I am not a Chopra fan not much fan of Ganguly except when he hits those long sixes...Neways...I think the selection should be on form...Chopra's recent failure should not affect his selection. This has happened many times in the past and should not happen again that a player is dropped because of his just one failure..That is just going to destroy his confidence...Ganguly is renowned to back youngsters, which was a very good point of his captaincy...
If someone needs to be dropped it has to be Ganguly due to bad form...He needs a break...

What say cricket lovers...

So, what's the point?
by Chakradhar Kommuri on Apr 11, 2004 07:15 PM

The article leads to nowhere. I think it is about time media should stop unnecessary speculations and let the captain do his job.

IS this required
by Kiran on Apr 11, 2004 06:49 PM

I dont undersatnd why do media require to bring up cases which will be of no use to anyone..This is a pathetic review..yes we know What Aakash Chopra will be feeling..But is this a tiem to decide about his emotions..Our sympathies are wiht him..and even Ganguly may speak to him directlly and make him understand but what to do with the media who jsut require something to write about..WHy r we creating a dent in the Successful team..He mite have not felt that bad..but the media is gonna elaborate his wounds and alwayz make him remember that u are not in the team just because the skiper doesnt want u to be...RATHER than because there is someone who can contribute better than U and help India..Its a TEAM Game MR Reporter and not individual..SO there should be healthy competition rather than backbiting..PLS dont write such reviews which doesnt benefit anyone BUT yes is very good a weapon to destroy ones own team..Hope U r not a Pakistani...

akash needs to be there
by akshat on Apr 11, 2004 06:34 PM

i think ganguly is being a bit harsh....akash chopra has done a lot for india every time he and sehwag has give a opening patnership india has bee comfortable his 30 - 40 odd runs r so frustating for other side tht they can concentrate.... we neeed a person who can stay and akash is best patner for sehwag rather than yuvraj as he and sehwag has same style of playing natural game... u cant just ignore chopra... and in last 2 innings he wasnt able to perform and wat happ finally india fell off... so it wat he does he builds the foundation and ill give him a preferance over yuvraj.... so mr ganguly think b4 u take a decision
