Team Selection
by anoop mathew on Mar 22, 2007 02:27 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

The whole approach towards team selection has to be changed. Ganguly was out cheaply in a lot of Ranji trophy matches at the time when he was not playing for the national team. Still he got selected. The same is the case with other senior members of the team also. Nobody is able to perform consistently. Appropriate changes has to be made at the right time. Team selection should be made only on the basis of merit . Our batsmen are not up to the standard and we have to accept this fact.

so you mean to say that ganguly should not have been selected for the Indian world cup team?? India wld have been bundled out for 100 runs against bangladesh then!!! he is the most consistent performer in the past two months, just think before you write anything!!

My dear friend,If Ganguly was selected then why we didn't give a chance to VVS laxman? There are lots of talent in India but the problem lies in not replacing the so called great players with new ones. Selection is based on other intrests.

VVS is a new player?? who can replace the so called great players?? and to quote you 'Selection is based on other interests' - If sourav enjoys such interests, he wouldnt have been dropped from the team at all.. look at sehwag.. whatever may happen, he wont be dropped, your this line is applicable for him..

VVS is not a new player. I suggested him only because you justified Ganguly. Ganguly was first droped because he was not playing well. He was again selected only because of the mounting pressure on a Maharastrian BCCI chief ans selection committe chairman. If ganguly was not selected then the whole blame lies on them because it will be said ganguly's non inclusion was the result of discrimination.

I agree. VVS is a player of true class and he has always been treated shabbily because he has no godfather. Hyderabad has no member of substance in the team unlike the days of Azhar. He was not taken even for the last WC when he was in roaring form.

Ganguly was dropped because his perfomance at that time was pathetic. Even though a person enjoys preference there comes a point when he has to be dropped if he is not showing the minimum standard.

but if selection is based on other interests and ganguly enjoys those favors, why was he dropped then?? and why isnt sehwag being dropped now?? and i have nothing against VVS, he is a champion player.. even he shld be included in them team.. you only took up the VVS issue to defend my support on saurav..
