Guys, I just want to have a small comparison between Sri Lanka and its nearest state in India, Tamil Nadu.
Tamil Nadu's population (2001) : 62,405,679 Sri Lanka's population : 20,222,240
Even in geographical area Tamil Nadu is bigger than Sri Lanka. Whatever statistics I try to compare, Tamil Nadu has an edge over Sri Lanka. But what I don't understand is if Sri Lanka can have a cricket team of international standard, statistically Tamil Nadu should also have a team of international standard. There are so many other states in india which can beat these statistics easily and everyone of them should have a cricket team of international standard.
It is pretty funny that we compare our Indian team with Sri Lankan team and some concluding that Sri Lankans and Indians are almost equal in cricket or Sri Lankans are more stronger or weaker.. Guys, don't u think something is wrong here? Shouldn't we sort of kick a***s in all the games?
Say if a guy like Jayasurya is like one in a million. Then we should have 10 Jayasurya's in the team. Awesome man. Same can be applied for the Australian team as well. Even if we can pick the best man from every state, we should have 2 teams of awesome standard. Where are these guys? Do we have just 1 sehwag, sachin, saurav, dravid in India?
I think sports in india is pretty much ****** up by politicians. (Everyone knows this, so what is the point? hmmm)
I think we are like puppets. Who ever the selectors select, we just blindly support them. And we are comparing them with a team like Sri Lanka, whose population can barely match Kerala's population. What should be done guys? Is it how we do things?
I think one way to increase the standard of Indian cricket or any other sports in India for that matter is to change people's mindset to concentrate on domestic competitions. I am happy that we forget all our differences and cheer for Indian team, but is it the real Indian team? Is it the team which represents India? It might represent the BCCI or Corporate Houses's Team, but surely it is not my team. You know the worst thing of all? We dun have a bowler who can bowl more than 150 kmph. Of course it is not mandatory or necessary to have a bowler like that, we just need line and length etc etc, but the truth is we couldnt find one.
I would like to rephrase the last line, Is it "we couldn't find one" or "we didn't see one"? I'm sure there should be millions of guys out there.
As I said before, ppl should encourage the domestic games and matches and the Sponsors should start supporting these matches. I think then, the ppl will know atleast some more great names within our India, and more cricketers can earn a livelyhood with this game, rather than a few who play in the Indian Team. This should be done in other games as well, especially in hockey and soccer as we are very pathetic in that. Any other suggestions? What u guys think?

Oh Mr.John, can you tell how many tamil players play in Sri lanka? Murlidharan is the lone exception, as they are zilch / shunya without him! Indian is the only country where if you have merit, no matter what caste, religion, sect, gender you are, you get to the top summit! Be it a lady prime minister, a minority community president, Actor, Cricket Captain, Chief Justice of India, Atomic Energy Chief, Government Sector top honcho, how many so called secular and liberal countries can even dream of this in paper! Please do not talk disparaging of the country that is your motherland!

You want Reservation in Cricket also. In our cricket team we gave players of all the Caste and Religion. Are you not seeing Zaheer, Uttappa, Yuvraj Singh etc., are they Brahmins? Pl. Don't comment without any sense.

Ali Ahmed When a specific country plays against World 11, it does not mean world 11 is better team and can always beat any speicific country. Like wise, if the population of india is many time higher than Srilanka does not mean India can always beat srilanka. The match is between teams. Given the composition, the strength and weakness of each and how you react at a given situation.

I agree with you. The so called international experts say that Indian team lacks quality bowlers and consistent batsment compared to other teams. And I also think it is kind of true. Don't we have sort of quality bowlers and consistent batsmen in our country?

I agree to your thoughts completely. Politics have played a spoil sport everywhere. The irony is , we are still blind and do not open or try to thing over these things.

Here is analysis regarding Chances to win the World Cup 2007 for India :
Reason1:
Year 1981 1. Prince Charles got married 2. Liverpool crowned Champions of Europe 3. Australia lost the Ashes 4. Pope Died 5. 2 years later India won the world Cup!!!
Year 2005 1. Prince Charles got married 2. Liverpool crowned Champions of Europe 3. Australia lost the Ashes 4. Pope Died 5. 2 years later India will win the world Cup
Reason2:
1982 Football World Cup won by Italy 1983 Cricket World Cup won by India
2006 Football World Cup won by Italy 2007 Cricket World Cup: INDIA
Reason 3:
1983: India has lost the only first match in 1983 world cup
2007: India has lost the only first match in 2007 and will not again
Still doubtful??? Watch out on Final Day
Knock out Punch:
1983 ? India stopped WI from winning World Cup for 3 rd consecutive time and since then WI has been in doldrums! 2007 ? India stops Australia from a 3 rd time WC ? and then ???
lets hope for the best
· only subjected to its win against srilanka tomorrow.

Mr. John, Please list number of brahmins playing for india and then open the trap! IT IS VERY FASHIONABLE FOR EVERY ONE IN TAMIL NADU TO DO THE BRAHMIN BASHING! YOU HAVE A FULL FLEDGED NON BRAHMIN GOVERNMENT RUNNING OR SHOULD I SAY RUINING THE STATE, ASK THEM WHAT THEY HAVE DONE SO EXTRA ORDINARY FOR YOU GUYS? PLEASE DONT GO BY HISTORICAL BIAS, AND FOR ALL THE IGNORAMUSES WHO GO AROUND BRAHMIN BASHING, Dr. ABDUL KALAM WAS FULLY SUPPORTED DURING HIS FORMATIVE YEARS INCLUDING HIS SCHOOLING BY A ORTHODOX BRAHMIN FAMILY, WHICH DR. KALAM HAS GRACIOUSLY ACKNOWLEDGED!
Your attitude is typical how even 100% reservation wont change some people and their mentality. Please keep to the thread of this discussion and dont bring caste into this. As a Christian, arent you supposed to be casteless ?

Run the domestic matches like the english prmiership, wherein we have rung 1 and rung 2 set of teams. Allow players to play with any team they wish to. Give each team a professional coach. First of all ban the entry of politicians into cricket management
