AHMEDABAD: Narendra Modi may have shot to fame in politics as an RSS pracharak . But, it is his "pet pracharak", encounter specialist D G Vanzara, whom he is missing the most today.
For, with the arrest of this architect of Sohrabuddin fake encounter seven months ago, the flow of "encounters" and "terrorist activity" has dried up in Gujarat. With it, those macabre plots to "eliminate" Modi and spread terror in Gujarat have also dried up.
BJP insiders say it is the absence of this prime "spin doctor" that is pinching Modi the most at a time when he is groping for an emotive issue to charge up the masses.
The buzz in the political circles is that if Vanzara had not been behind bars today, a string of encounters, arrests of suspected terrorists and recovery of bombs and ammunition would have heightened the election tempo and added that extra colour to Modi's image as the saviour of Hindus.
Vanzara could alone have helped him reign as the "Hindu hriday samrat" that he loves to call himself. Police records say, there have been as many as 14 encounter deaths in the state in the last five years and of these, Vanzara - a Gujarat cadre IPS officer - was directly involved in 10. Apart from this, there have been numerous seizures of bombs and arms and ammunition and arrests of at least 50 people on suspicion of terrorist links. Most of these encounters, including that of Sohrabuddin, were described by Vanzara in elaborate press conferences as "major breakthroughs". Those killed or arrested were portrayed as hardened terrorists who plotted to kill Modi and spread a reign of terror in Gujarat.
But, since Vanzara's arrest on April 24 this year, there has not been a single encounter nor has any conspiracy come to light. Shorn of Vanzara, the once dreaded ATS is having a peaceful existence. Police sources say, the fate of Vanzara, once a high-flying police officer, has had other top policemen develop cold feet in indulging in such heroics.

Fake encounters anywhere everywhere by anyone is not acceptable. Problem is not that it has not happened elsewhere. Here in Gujarat MODI glorifies it. That is the problem.

If there is any mudslinging against any person in recent past, it is against Mrs. Sonia Gandhi. I have not seen any channel blocked out because of that.

which channels did mud slinging against Sonia??? are you out of your mind??? all the channels have one agenda, that is to bring up violance of 2002 in Gujrat and never show the development done in the state in last 5 years compared to what congress didn't do in 50 years.
