I read all the replies. How wrong everybody is. Nobody joins the forces for the love of the country. They join because of the good life they can get and the thrill of the uniform and the respect they get in the society. It is a permenant job and they are cared for even after the retirement.Apart from the pay there are other benefits also. They take risk ofcourse. But they join after balancing everything. I will always recomend a young man to join the services for smartness and good life. Ofcourse they take risk and for that I respect them.

You idi*ot. Do you think it is a joke to get into the NDA, forget even surviving the course? Anyone who can make it into the NDA could have waltzed into any stupid BPO job for twice the salary or more. It is their desire to serve the country and their idealism that makes them join. Don't insult them with your cheap thinking

hey martin, granted my friend, that for the lower cadres, it serves dual purpose, money is the motivation as well. but don't u think that once they join, they r single, but after they get married and have children, they also have dreams and aspirations? Also, have you ever noticed, that most of the lower cadres has someone in their family serving the nation? It becomes a trend for the lower cadre who take pride in serving after a while. Thus the two fold reasons, earn while you maintain the tradition and I my friend am absolutely proud of them. It does take guts (specially in the Army).
