Swami Vivekanada had once said (on seeing the level of caste system) that the whole of Kerala is a mental asylum. Specifically, he said that upper caste hegemony was responsible for a whole lot of people moving away from Hinduism in this state. Now, does anyone wonder why Kerala is the only major Indian state (except J&K) which has a sizeable(>40%) non-Hindu population?
This issue is not about upper caste dominance, but it is the inability of a populace (dominant in temple affairs) to still see what Swami Vivekananda wanted to educate us a century ago.
