Been reading everybody's messages about the Mumbai rains. Scarcity of words will not let me explain everything to a T. But here's a start. The main problem started some time ago, when the infrastructure planners closed the mouth of Mithi River. This river starts at Borivali national park and moves southwards through Chandivali. So the calamity was just waiting to happen. Second, mangroves. Mangroves and open land act as a cushion or a sponge to contain all the water. Obviously the real estate developers have greased many palms to develop this land. Third, the disaster management plan. Come on man! This is Mumbai. We deserve a plan of this sort. Augment the drainage system, improve communication through walkie talkies, corporatize it by having kiosks at strategic places in Mumbai, which would be headed by managers, and put up public address systems at these very places. But why are we writing and reading? The people at the helm dont even know about this and are not going to do anything about it either. Well we can pray or stand up in the elections ourselves. Anybody to vote for me?
