Stop blaming the rains
by Kalpesh Joshi on Aug 02, 2005 03:02 PM   Permalink

It's really very shocking to see the state of a world class city just after a day's heavy rain fall. Mumbai is India's economic capital as well as most expesive city. Mumbaites are the highest tax payers in India in form of Income Tax, Sales Tax, property tax etc. And what services are we receiving in exchange? Basic necessities like food, water and electricity have not reached to the certain areas even after five days gap!! Whom should we blame?

By now everybody must have realised that the damage was mostly not due to rain but the poor state of administration and rampant corruption. It is a time for all NGO's and local social organisations to come together and condemn the current policies of the Goverment for allowing rampant construction, increasing FSI's, killing mangroves etc. without having any vision to deal with such calamities.
