Manufacture vs. IT...
by no south on Jan 11, 2009 08:34 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

When you manufacture something, you can see and feel the product. While when you do the IT, you produce a computer code which may or may not be useful later on. Therefore, manufacturing is the way India should go. A soap manufacturing company is infinitely more superior to an IT company, whether from the contributions to the nation or from the point of view of employment generation. South India is all IT based, which is like Maya. Today its there, tomorrow it will be gone.

And who's going to develop the software that manages the accounts of the soap company?

And if you are working at all, do you prefer that your salary stubs be processed by a human or by a computer and you get them on time?

When you go to a supermarket, do you want the old way of writing receipts on small slips of paper?

Computers and software are here to stay. The cost and way of doing things will change according to supply and demand. Just like every other company on the face of the earth.

Also from a pure financial viewpoint, it's harder to get into an already established market - it will take Indian a dozen years to get a portion of china's share of manufacturing.

If it's gone tomorrow, people will find a way to survive, you don't have to worry about that. Besides, if you come to South India, we will help you find a job.

Yes I agree. Agriculture is another real industry which puts food on everyone's table. It is getting neglected because of this Maya of IT.

computers should be devices to do some calculation/project work thats all. it cannot grow rice, wheat on land. it cannot make clouds to rain. if agriculturists stop growing food grains, these IT/BT people have to make their own arrangements with computers to grow on computers. GIVE PRIORITY TO AGRICULTURE. THIS IS THE BASE FOR INDIAN ECONOMY. NOT COMPUTER SOFTWARE. COMPUTERS SHOULD BE USED FOR FAST COMMUNICATION, INFORMATION PURPOSE ONLY.
