Big Retail vs Kirana Dealers
by Anand sodo on Oct 21, 2007 05:15 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

The biggest problem with us is that we desire and cherish that all others do what "I" decide is good or bad.
Banning Prostitution also means empty stomachs for 'Millions'- So should we allow it freely?
Criminalising 'Robbery and Pickpocketing' also means the deathknell for millions(as they do not have any other sourse of income)- So lets allow robbery and pickpocketing too!!
Every Human being born has some basic needs which he/she fulfills as per circumstances permitting and his/her counter-action to the circumstances.
It is for the society to decide "Legal &
Illegeal" and stop thereupon, and let others function within the legal parameters
But here we on the one hand say the Big Retail is no better than the "Lala" next door - Then WHY is everyone AFRAID of the big retail? - The fact is The kiranawalla is afraid because he knows the truth - he sells adulterated / duplicate/Substandard stuff!
The Kirana store can only die if the Reliance's and Wall marts give 'something'BETTER to the public which the kiranawala does not
So it is better these middlemen try to improve themselves rather Organise RALLIES and Stop others from doing Legal Business Ethically, Paying all the Taxes and luring the customer with Something "EXTRA"

I totally agree with Anand. The author of this article has a partial approach to the subject.
Middleman mafia shud be eliminated, and this kind of gundaism(stone pelting arsoning) shud be stricly delt with. But incidently politicians n state heads r supporting this mafia coz thats where they get the money from.
Although i am not an admirer of Ambani or reliance or any retail giant, i admire their effort to pay the farmers what they deserve in real at the same time benefitting the consumer.
The margin they hav is very low. In a country where farmers are committing suicide, these retailers are adopting them and assuring a good future. The farmers are being rewarded for their sweat and toil. Government instead of making false promises to farmers on subsidy and relief shud hav practical approach and encourage this development model. Its already a hit abroad and so will it be in India.
As far as opposition is concerend it will just be for the meanwhile and in future im sure it is going to be a success. It will be a revolution. Employment will be generated at a high scale but only for person with minimal education, which will be good. So those illiterate baniyas and kiranawalas who made a fortune by selling products at mrp and adulterated stuff may disappear in dark.
They hav been making easy money with the
the blood of farmers and working labor class people.Last but not the least this will solve all the encroachment problems in towns and cities posed by these hawkers, there
