more iits?
by Deepa Nair on Oct 17, 2003 07:54 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

no, we do not need more IITs. more IITs will only dilute the standards. I am currently a Masters student in Mech Engg in the USA. if the number of IITs is increased, all good candidates (i said good, not excellent) will be in them and so the engg colleges at the state level will have to accept sub standard candidates. even now there are thousands of engineering students who hardly know anything about engineering. engineering is highly valued in other countries but the maximum number of engineers in the west are indians. all of them r not really competent enough to get jobs and will end up doing just about anything to earn a living, thereby diluting the quality or good name of the really competent ones

Dear Deepa,
Yes,I totally agree that just changing name of an institution from REC to IIT will not serve any purpose.Instead the present conditions and infrastructure of REC'S should be improved to fill in the gap between the two.

But I am totally not in favour of your other part of the comments:
You are judging others on there capabilities too much.
Can't a person from REC be a good or excellent engineer. It doesn't mean a person who is not in IIT can never be a good engineer. The point is the IITians only get a good platform to start their career which a person from REC is sometimes not able to get .But after that it is the attitude and thinking that matters the most to be a success rather than how good you operate computer or other skills .To be a success you need more than just skills. So please don't judge others too much.Good people will always go high whether they are from IIT or REC.If I may add around 2000 people graduate from IIT every year not all of them end up doing great. It depends on individual.

hi,

to study does not means that you are an intelligent one.those who have money can go anywhere and can take the degree without mastering it.A true national thinks for the progressiveness
of the country.
i think you dont know how the REC'S are working.study about it and then write the comments.
wishing you a better future.
bye

Ohh!!! U were a superstandard student!! Is that y u ran to USA?? If u think a lil in the direction I show, u will admit that u had been missing something till now. The brightest and better than the brightest runs off to USA once their graduation is over in India. It is the leftovers, I mean the substandards who had been running the show till now in this country! Thats the place where I live now and most probably ur pa & ma are with me too. Now tell me what do u want to do with the bone-less, sorry "ONLY ME" kinda guys. U have to create oppurtunities for them to create wonders here. India doesn't need those kinda wonders I suppose! If proper education at IIT can't make them think properly...whatelse on earth will! Don't worry yaar...these substandard ppl know how to make their country a superpower. It will happen before I die.
