Guru means one who removes darkness.

One must not confuse a Guru with a teacher. Guru is specifically meant for imparting SPIRITUAL knowledge. He explains the disciple the difference between matter and spirit and what is the real aim of human birth. That is the real meaning of a guru i.e. one who removes darkness of life which is repeated birth and death.

Whereas school and college teachers impart material knowledge like physics and chemistry and cannot be called Guru in true sense.
