DEVDAS-AN OBSESSION
by sugata chatterjee on Feb 07, 2009 08:36 PM   Permalink

Sarat Chandra Chatterjee is the most powerful writer/novelist India has seen in the last three hundred years. His pen was on the pulse of the common people who reads and also thinks to understand what Sarat Chandra has conveyed in his novels and stories.
Sarat Chandra himself told he feels embarassed he wrote a novel like Devdas, because it was not the creation of a matured mindset, he was too young to understand that when he wrote it. Even then people of this country has loved this story simply because Sarat Chandra had an extremely mighty literary style through which he could delve deep in the hearts of people and bring out the spectres of all emotions.
I do not know who the great man this Anurag Kashyap is and why he has to distort what Sarat Chandra has penned. Can he give shape to Sarat Chandra's "Seshprashna" (the last query) on the celluloid ? I do not think he can because Anurag Kashyap will not be able to understand such a novel written by Sarat Chandra at the prime of his literary might.
