politics of opportunism
by shiva on Jul 05, 2008 08:46 AM

The issues are clear:
sign the deal
1. We get uranium for our plants and get new ones to run after ten years. The cost of new plants are not only getting higher, uranium is getting really expensive.
2. We will be second class to China & even Pakiatan.
3. the full implications of the deal is not transparent.
4. We get sucked up more into others' hands.

Do not sign the deal
1. Our present plants will strutter.
2. The new ones at Koodankulam's fate is unclear. We end up putting up a white elephant.
3. We bid bye to nuclear plants & being pushed to the wall we should go indigenous developing our own uranium & thorium.

The fall-out of the issue is at a fever pitch due to politics. Bush admn may not budge but soon there is a new dawn & we should present a stronger case. Does not not the biggest demo crazy & having one sixth population count to something? Yes, we are divided & have forgotten the lessons of slavery just sixty years ago but we should put our house in order to have a common agenda. Does not 80% dependency on oil from Gulf countries ring doom bells? Or we go down the hell-hole blaming others eternally for our follies.

It is time Left came out with clear solutions to our energy problem. One thing is certain, the days of dharna, strikes & bandhs will never solve any problem. Their idols are marching ahead putting up marvels through hard work, bereft of ideologies & inspired by fruits of their labour.

Do not be eternal stumbing blocks!
