I would second this thought. Rather I would go a step forward and suggest a compulsory military training and service of 2 - 3 years like in Israel for all youth (boys & girls) between 17 - 19 years. This way we can achieve multiple things: 1. Build discipline in our young generation 2. Build a strong back-up of trained personnel in case of emergencies like war or internal turmoil (which would be minimal due to our discipline) 3. Build character and pride to our nation in deeds just not in words.
You may get a doubt what happens to our need of engineers, doctors and others. The following would work: 1. As part of their training, they can be trained on their interest like science or arts or technical line over a period of 1 year (during their last year of service) and can join their choice of courses in engg, medicine or social sciences. This selection should be based on their 10th or 2 marks and performance in the military training and service.
