Being Proactive
by Nagesh Bhagwat on Jan 11, 2008 07:37 PM

All the CPM seems to do is criticize the policies of a coalition they support. They are in a situation, where though they are not technically part of the government, both houses of the parliament are headed by their representatives (Somnath and Ansari) On one hand, I wonder if these leaders would be in a position to dissolve their own house.

More importantly, the CPM should focus on suggestions and policy decisions that help the country rather than threaten at every instance. The fuel price hike for example, should be debated and alternatives identified, if a Price-Rise is objected to. How else can we justify the subsidy? I wonder if Karat or Yechury are qualified to make proactive suggestions.

And the Bharat Ratna is symbolic, and if someone needs to lobby for it, it exposes their vanity, whether it is the BJP or the CPM. One needs to address larger issues here
