Met a well read German national recently. He was wondering how neigbouring countries like India and Pakistan have had such a divergent experience with democracy. He feels it has something to do with religion. The RSS should be credited with playing a great role in foiling Indira Gandhi's attempts to crush democracy...otherwise, we would have been like Pakistan today. Absolute shambles.
