Brahminical arrogance!! Absolutly absurd!!
by calmer on Jun 05, 2007 10:07 AM

In India, it is a now the fashion to find fault with Brahmins under any pretext. In Guruvayur, Thantri did what he is duty bound to do. Understand, Tantri doesn't sit in the "gopuram" checking the antecedents of each entrant into the temple. When a report comes to him that a non-hindu has entered the temple, he is duty bound to order "punyaham" - this is not to insult the wrong doer, but to purity the abode of the God. Punyaham was carried out in Guruvayur temple innumerable times, and no one bothers to trace the offending "non-hindu", but only cared about purifying the temple abode. In fact "punyaham" forms part of every brahminical ritual, and it is normal the performer of a rite is always purified with a "punyaham" to carry out that destined rite. In Vayalar Ravi's case too, when entry of a non-hindu was reported to the Tantri, he ordered the punyaham, not to insult Vayalar Ravi, but to purify the temple abode. A similar incident happened in the case of same Vayalar Ravi. Knowing this fact, if he was so concerned as he seems to now, he should have clarified with the temple authorities to prove his/family's hindu lineage. Without taking that basic action, it may be that he was indeed trying to create a controvorsy. Having said all, let all guruvayurappa bhakthas enter the temple without any restrictions, that would be a wonderfun reform, but let the authorities to change the rule allowing free entry, so that the Tanthri will not be forced to do a bounden duty.
