The allocation of 270 tmc of water to Karnataka against 419 tmc to Tamilnadu is not ustifiable. Release of water as per monthwise stipulations will always be difficult since it depends on so many factors like availability, water requirements for drinking, agriculture and other needs of the command areas.
Verdict should not be based on historical agreements, but instead should have been based on scientific data regarding command area and optimal water requirements of each state. It will be very difficult to meet the drinking water needs of Bangalore and other cities within this allocation.
In a normal year, even excess water than stipulated above is being released by karnataka to Tamilnadu. But during deficiency, Tamilnadu should not claim water as a matter of their right and should not make political noises, instead they should adopt give and take policy and should settle such issues by mutual discussions only amongst the farmers of two states without involving any politicians.
