The Namboodiri Brahmin Migrants encouraged the Bastardisation of the Tamil language form the 12th century onwards to establish themselves in their new homeland . This was later encouraged by the royal family during the Pandyan /Cheran wars. ( that is why the Malyalees call the Tamils Pandis) Speaking some form of a different language from Tamil maked your subjects loyal to you . The Spaniards and Portuguese Royal household did the same thing too. It was only around three hundre years ago that the court language changed from Tamil to Malayalam. Kerala ,Sri Lanka and the present day Tamil Nadu were part of ancient Tamilakam , The Chera kings of Kerala were staunch defendents of Tamil and the Tamil Language. large sections of southern Karnataka and Andhra was where kodun Tamil was spoken ( not proper Tamil). I find it strange that al the other south Indian lingustic groups come here and run down the Tamil people and the Tamil language whithout any provocation.
