Where is neutral view?
by Niraj Kumar on Jul 07, 2006 01:11 PM

The politics behind Dr. Venugopal removal is certainly unfortunate but his removal was desired. It's true that the health minister is infringing the autonomy of AIIMS, but it is also true for Dr. Venugopal that he misused the spirit of autonmoy.

AIIMS is an autonomous Institution but is governed within the framework of Indian Constitution. The constitution has mandated reservations for the underpreveileged communities and AIIMS is not outside the purview of this mandate.

It's no secret that Dr. Venugopal has crossed all limits and supported anti-reservation stir at AIIMS. By doing so, not only he blatantly violated the service code but also disregarded the constitution.

You can't run a govt. institution as per your own whims and fancy, therefore, targeting the gun only towards Dr. Ramadoss will be highly unfair.

You don't need to be a social analyst to understand why Dr. Venugopal is getting unprecedented support from his medical fraternity who were at forefront during recent anti-reservation stir. I doubt any posting here is taking a neutral view of autonomy issue. They are only extending solidarity to Dr. Venugopal for his anti-reservation stance.
