MUMBAI: Aamir Khan’s Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na has won the first round of its much-awaited battle with Harry Baweja’s Love Story 2050. The simple college-bound love story, featuring newcomer Imraan Khan, seems to have clicked with the audiences much more than Baweja’s sci-fi magnum opus.

Multiplexes reported near-packed houses for Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na on Friday, with occupancies at 90-95% while Love Story 2050, which is introducing Harman Baweja, could only manage 50-60% occupancies.

“Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na seems to have a large lead as compared to Love Story 2050. We are expecting occupancy levels of Love Story 2050 to go up over the weekend. However, that will largely depend on what families decide to watch. Jaane Tu... has done really well with the college-going crowd, and the film seems to be in higher demand than the latter,” said Cinemax vice-president (marketing & programming) Devang Sampat.

Even trade analysts predict that Jaane Tu... is poised to be a big hit while Love Story 2050 may not be able to match the former’s success. “Jaane Tu... is a very well-made film with a wonderful storyline that will definitely make it big at the box office. Love Story 2050, on the other hand, lacks in its storyline and screenplay. The film is only about special effects and will not work with the audiences,” said trade analyst Komal Nahta.
