what makes the IITs different from the other engineering colleges in India apart from some facilities?...It is nothing but the purely merit based entrance system, which allows only the bright and deserving into it. India needs to get out of the reservation mode, which is only making people lazy and incompetent, needless to say the divisions it creates in our society. To compete globally no one will come to India's rescue(not even V.P.Singh & Mandal commision) with reservation for BC, MBC, SC, ST....
