Why not bring more RECs (NITs) and other state-level institutes to the level of IITs? Focus should be on better infrastructure development instead of siphoning funds to new IITs. Overall development of engineering institutes is necessary at this juncture. Education should be free of bias and creation of IITs mean unnecessary discrimination between IIT and non-IITs. The gulf between IITs and non-IITs need to be bridged rather than widening it. New IITs will not reduce unemployement and from any perspective - short-term, medium term or long-term, such initiatives should be discouraged.
