Having studied in an IIT, I know how easy it is to get in there. It's just a question of how much knowledge you have about a certain subject. This is the problem with IITs. I have also studied in other countries and the selection process, I should say, was a lot tougher than in the JEEs. The students at the IITs were not the top notch students of India, but people who just memorized a textbook full of crap!! I have seen really smart people not making it into to the IITs. Increasing the number may, hopefully, get those smart people in as well.
