Conversion of ISM-DHANBAD TO IIT-DHANBAD
by BVVSN PRASAD on Aug 20, 2004 03:03 PM

The Indian School of Mines was formally opened by His excellency the Viceroy Lord Irwin on 9th December 1926 On the completion of the first 25 years of its existence in 1951 the Silver Jubilee celebrations were inaugurated by Dr Rajendra Prasad, the then President of India, who gave thereby a fresh fillip to this Institution. The School had celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 1976 and Platinum Jubilee in 2001.In last 77 years the institute has grown both vertically and horizontally. It has got very good Electronics, mechanical & computer science engineering departments apart from traditional mining, mineral and petroleum engineering. The facilities, campus, faculties are very good and comparable to most of the IITs. The curriculum followed is of IITs. Students are being admitted through the prestegeous entrance test IIT-JEE FOR SO MANY YEARS. The students who have been admitted through this exam should not be deprived. To improve the placement chances and to have the flow of funds for development, ISM DHANBAD SHOULD BE CONVERTED TO IIT-DHANBAD VERY SOON.
