When I had been to the US for the first time and met endless couples who had been married for more than 15 years to the same partner, I was curious and asked about their infamous '50% divorce rate' and the answer shocked me. They said, a significant portion of the populace stays married to the same person almost for life, however, there is another set of the populace, that get married and divorced for like three or four times in a lifetime! If a girl falls in love with a guy, she usually stays in love for a lifetime. Yes like philandering men, there are women who find it difficult to stay with one person, but they are the exception, not the rule.
Finally, while parents are definitely well wishers, they are people (and that includes me as a parent) who have lived their lives, youth and adulthood in a different time, with different cultural mores and more importantly a different economic situation.
