Selfishness
by Vishnu Varma on Jan 02, 2009 05:27 AM

I notice people on this forum using the phrase "selfishness" to describe players, especially Sachin, Saurav, Rahul and/or VVS.

For a player to achieve this level, "rational selfishness" is needed. You cannot rise to this level without an objective (in Ayn Rand's sense) approach towards selfishness.

These four players are all great cricketers. On leadership front, they are very different, some lead from front (like saurav) and some lead quietly (sachin, rahul and VVS). All of them are selfish, and could have been more successful if they are a little more rationally selfish.

Lets appreciate all of them while they wrap their careers up. Once they hangup their boots, we will be missing them the way Australia is missing McGrath and Warne.

For the time being though, lets not call them "selfish", as if we or some others in the team/forum is "altuistic". As far as I can tell, Mother Theresa never played cricket at international level.
