A step for future coverups and freedom from accountability
by Ajoy Kumar (View MyPage) on Dec 18, 2008 11:11 PM  | Hide replies

I disagree with this move. Without the media the public would never had known the gross neglect that has taken place nor be aware of what places to avoid in real time.

Sensitivity is required but not dictated by a draconian law. Public has a right to know whats happening in real time and not being kept in the dark for politicians to take advantage of coverups ever again.

A lot of the anger fueled now taking our great "babu's" to task is thanks to the same media. Would live boardcasts aid terrorists ? Not if the concerned authorites are doing their task rights.

9/11 was followed live. Bush was taken to task and the Taliban became a hunted entity overnight. Don't allow the government to seize your freedom of choice. If you don't like it switch channels.

No media person sits along with the police/army, they follow the events from a distance. The army can enfore that border as necessary.

Btw, thanks media and Rediff for making the people aware. As for comment beneath mine, everyone has seen the shocking scenes of people jumping off the twin towers live. Horrible but don't deny reality.

The law just prevents the media from excessive interference and their mad rush to cover any army or special forces action against terrorists. It was stupid and senseless to show the covert operations taking place at the Taj, oberoi and nariman house - the terrorists could have had easy access to the news being telecast (considering the fact that they had come 100% well prepared). It was best to let the NSG and army complete their operations and then report their experience to the news channels. The news channles like hungry dogs were showcasing each and every moment of our armed forces acting against the terrorists - what is the need to show all that - let the armed forces complete their job without giving unnecessary advantage to the those terrorists !!! What stupid quetions were those media journos asking - mad dogs just trying to increase their TRP's

good move

Its a good move by NBA.These journalists are out of their minds..they must act responsibly when it comes to live encounters.Media shows terror incidents as if they are showing a movie..It shows effect on viewers mind.Media must realize that it has a great responsibity to handle..I request media that just to gain TRPs do not show such incidents..they spoil the minds of viewers..I think media must be regularized..its a welcome move..

It is unfair - That was 60 hours of live entertainment for teh world
by krish andy (View MyPage) on Dec 18, 2008 11:07 PM  | Hide replies

The entire world had 60 hours of live entertainment - costliest film ever made in the world- live film taken at the cost of U.S.$1 billion (could be much more.) Commando operations, comedy (saw RR Patil Maharashtra Home minister shouting "Bharat Mata Ki Jai" near Taj premises), matyrs falling to bullets like Karkare, Salaskar. Fake heros like Vishwas Nagre Patil DCP , Mumbai Police leaking out Taj CCTV camera footage and shouting "hum Jaan de denge lekin unko bachne nahi denge" . Conspiracy therories.... "it was RSS- Mossas Behind the attacks" "there is mystery in death of Hemant Karkare"

.. and last and very much the least ... some 200 human beings were given freedom from planet earth .. and 400 others were merely madfe to take rest for couple of months or years.

Does anyone want to miss such entertainment?

If God forbid, one of your loved ones was part of the 200 killed or you were injured, would it still be an entertainment? If this was cynical, this was not funny.

Whether you like it or not it was nothing but entertainment for the world. People in my building stayed home grabbed lot of chilled beer, chips and were glued to TV.

Mr. Undy you seems to be enjoying the tragedy that engulfed people of Mumbai. There were people who were waiting for their loved onces. I feel you must be from the south who enjoy films of Rajnikanth the comedy hero. It is Ok. There were people who were going through mental agony. When your people were having chilled beer, there were the employees of Taj Hotel trying to save its guest and also died in the event. You call all this entertainment. You souless $...... Event Kasab and his friend Ismail were laughing and enjoying themselves when they were kill the poor passengers about to board the train. I am wondering how people you and those around look at things. Rajnikant and Kamal Hassan are good entertainer that the south enjoy only.

If you are Indian mr andy, that it sickens me as a fellow citizen that you and your building people thought of this as entertainment - just shows the filthy self centered mind you'll have !!! If you are not an Indian, then sure you must have thought its entertainment because nobody would have thought that such a dastardly act could be unfolding live on TV

It would have been good if our government had promised us "Mumbai attack will be the last ever in India". But I guess security for our lives is asking a little too much.

Very Good Step
by Sudip Bhattacharjee (View MyPage) on Dec 18, 2008 10:59 PM  | Hide replies

This is very good step taken. I was appalled to see how the media was displaying decomposed bodies, dead bodies, injured people without any regard to their privacy. If I was a victim, I would have been outraged by this. The media should learn how to handle sensitive matter. They should keep in mind that during 9/11, 3000 people died and no TV channel showed a single dead body. That is called ethics and respect to human lives.

I appeal to the media: learn from this incident and change yourself.

This is only to prevent public opinion from developing and pressurising an inept non-functional government to start acting. This will only prevent dysfunctional heads like Shivraj Patil from being thrown out. Thsi move is certainly not in the best interests of security of the common man.
