Definitely,Karthik should play in the middle order and it will be useful to India if we lose wickets at an earlier stage.

no need of margin, if bangladesh loose against bermuda. then india 'll be through because bangladesh net run rate is -2.00 it 'll be more negative.

BE WARNED! Something wrong with calculations!!
by on Mar 22, 2007 01:44 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

My calculations show that for Bangladesh to have NRR of 1.7, then need only a margin of 185 runs. Which means, if they make 285 and dismiss Bermuda for 100, they are through and India is doomed.

The calculations were hypothetical to make india go in second round. What if India loses to Srilanka, and Bangladesh registers just a win over Bermuda?

BD scored 192 against India in 48.3 overs and scored 112 against SL in 50 overs ie 304 runs in 98.3 overs which gives a runrate of 3.08

India scored 191 in 50 overs and SL scored 317 in 50 overs ie 508 runs in 100 overs which gives a run rate of 5.08.

NRR = RR scored for - RR scored against

NRR = 3.08 - 5.08 = -2.00

My freind... ur calculations are wrong... you have to take in total runs in 3 matches divided by total overs in 3 matches. If the team has won any match then, only those overs they have used to win that match will be calculated. think u must have understood a little bit abt the calculation now..

My apologies, yes I was wrong. BTW, it would be interesting if India loses to SL and Bermuda wins over Bangla. But I guess in that case, India will go through anyway.

No doubt India will be in super 8. But this team gets more expectations from India which is very sad.

Agarkar should be dropped for the match
by deepak rai on Mar 22, 2007 01:39 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Agarkar should be drop and Sreesanth shoul be taken , Harbhajan should get a chance also . Agarkars bowling against left hand bats man is not good. many balls lies on or beyond leg stump

Yes in place of Agarkar they should bring Shrisanth. Kumble or Harbhajan it doesn't matter as both are good with ball and bad with bat.

India's group of death: What numbers say

That's an excellent piece of write up for those fascinated by Gaming Theory. You should also have discussed the possible scenario if India loses to Sri Lanka. If that happens, then what will be targets before Bangladesh if it has to overtake India to advance to Super 8?

nothing! Don't think too much. If India loses to SriLanka and Bangladesh wins against Bermuda, Bangladesh will move ahead as they will have 4 points whereas India will only have 2. So India has to win and hopefully they will :-)

pick the right eleven
by dinker r radhakrishnan on Mar 22, 2007 01:37 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Zaheer,Munaf,Pathan/sreesanth,kumble,harbhajan.

This should be india's bowling line up.we just cannot aford another weird bowling display.we must play 2 spinners in all games cos we just dont ve enough faster bowlers who can send down 10 decent overs in ODIs.its as simple as that. The reason why we are always a bowler short in almost all games in that one bowler(read agrkar)underperforms consistantly. He should be shown the door and batsmen ofcourse should deliver........
