Will India enter Super 8
by Kunthipuram Chary on Mar 22, 2007 06:36 PM  Permalink

It is disastrous for the TV guys not to have India in the Super8. The forces that be will take good care to see that only the team that chatches maximum couch potato eyeballs will go through at ANY COST. May the soul of Woolmer rest in peace.

Group of Death
by Vikas D on Mar 22, 2007 06:35 PM  Permalink

Group B was never the group of death, India made it one by playing 'extremely well' against Bangladesh. But still, I would not lose hope.

Indian team are real minnows
by Lion on Mar 22, 2007 06:34 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Our so called Indian team are paper tigers and they are good for nothing. Probably the most inconsistent team. I certainly wish Indian team wins and atleast reaches last 8. But frankly speaking it would not be a easy task against the Srilankans.

agreed fully, Sri Lanka will not be tamed that easily and i suspect India might just go down fighting.
Sri Lankan bowling is far superior, batting is comparable, feilding is superior. Vass and Murali must be in really bad luck, or may be Murali's Indian wife wispers something into his ear and he becomes ineffective.
Miracles happen, on friday India needs one.

England are a far more inconsistent team methinks. But that aside, it definitely wont be an easy task, but far from impossible. India did win 2 out of 3 matches and 6 out of 7 in previous series against Sri Lanka. And the one match they did lose recently was by 5 pathetic runs and god only knows what a fluke that was since they were destined to win. The problem is that they take out the top order but then they let the remaining 3 or 4 batsman score big runs. Play 5 bowlers! This problem will be eradicated.

It was obvious team India was for some reason really scared of underestimating Bangladesh to the point where they overestimated them and gave their bowlers so much respect. Can be compared with how Jayasuriya and co. blasted their bowling attack yesterday. They have to shake off this chokers mentality and we'd all like to HOPE India learnt their lesson and be more aggressive.

We know that Inida will be in super Eight beacuse neither with the calculation nor with the overall team performance but with support

1) The advertiser :- Their would be million dollar losses for the Tv Advertiser .

2) Gamblers :-The millions dollar losses on the gambling sector.

3)Benefits for ICC :-The earning to the ICC from the Indian subcontientent.

The Cricket game had become a business where some segment makes money,so they know how to make their team at super eight.Please dont worry about the indian team for an early exit.GO INDA GO.

But whether we want India to go to the next stage based just on these factors instead on their performance is a question we will have to ask ourselves. Is such a victory a really victory?

India must make it to the Super Eights for the simple reason that they are better than Bangladesh and even Sri Lanka on their day. THe nation will be in mourning if SL beat India on Friday and God save Greg Chappell, he should not go the Bob Woolmer way. Go India just do it.

Remember in 1996 Semifinal between India VS Srilanka. India has tendency to loose under pressure, so hope this time they will come out as a winner.

Also remember WC99 in England where India trounced Srilanka. And even recently when we beat them comprehensively in india! Both are good teams and whoever plays well will win and should win.

Wrong Calculation
by Pankaj Garg on Mar 22, 2007 06:30 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

this calculation is wrong for the case if Bermuda bats first in BD/bermuda game. If Bermuda bats first and get out on 50 and then if BD achieve the target in 6th over then they can overtake the indian NRR.
This is the only remote possibility which can prevent india from moving ahead.

RE:Wrong Calculation
by Sameer Gharat on Mar 22, 2007 07:27 PM  Permalink
Well Pankaj, your calculation is wrong. Here's how...

If Bermuda is bowled out for 50 runs and SL scores 51 runs in 6 overs, the NRR calculations for Bangladesh will be something like this...

NRR = Total Run Rate by Bangladesh - Total Run Rate Against Bangladesh

NRR = ((192 112 51) / (48.5 50 6)) - ((191 318 50) / (50 50 50))

NRR = (355 / 104.5) - (559 / 150)

NRR = 3.397 - 3.727

NRR = -0.33 ... which is far below India's Net Run Rate even if India scrapes through for a win against Sri Lanka.

Darn! the 'plus' signs were stripped off automatically!

It should be 192 plus 112 plus 51 ... 191 plus 318 plus 50... and so on...

i ask mr gavaskar who criticised autralia what dose he has to say about INDIA. I think he is the right person to tell you who will win ? i think Mr pointing and his boys will have the last laugh. As far as my opinion is concerned i think indian team has only players with big names as a team they are most inconsistent. I wont be surprised if bangladesh, bermuda, ireland etc defeat india in cricket tournaments in near future. The biggest joke is how media has glorified the indian teams victory over bermuda and sehwag making a century against them "uff give me a brek bermuda ko to hamare gali ke bachhae bhi hara denge" the way dravid backs up sehwag i think he is "gay" i dnt understand why we give importance to these players and cricket where every one earns so much but what do they give their country in return " DISSAPOINTMENT " all the time. Its high time we start to support other games such as hockey, football etc and spend some money and time on them atleast they will try to do something. I think indian cricket is becoming a big money earning place where right from the BCCI chairman to selectors to players earn. I request Mr Prime minister to please intervene in the sorry state of our cricket and help our country to have a new TEAM INDIA which can win the world cup in 2011. " arey mein bhi kahan se kahan divert hogaya haan to" what was the question will india win on friday no never "COME HOME MEN IN BLUE WE ARE WAITING TO TURN YOU INTO RED AND BLACK"

beautifully written and absolutely true.... good job... I do agree other sporst have to be given chance and should be given chance... Indian Cricket team is nothing but disappointment. Indian team lacks the instinct of winning. All they care is money, money, and just money. They dont' care about winning or losing. Does it make a big deal If India scored 413 against BErmuda??? even my Troy Cricket Club people can do that. It will make a big deal if India does that against New zealand or even England. INdian team is given too much hype. THEY star in ads, they are brand ambassadors... But they don't care about Indian team.... India sucks... its the truth. Indian team is going to be out of world cup and I am waiting to watch the fun when the men in blue will be turned into red and black.

by subhash kulkarni on Mar 22, 2007 06:22 PM  Permalink

If it rains during the India-SriLanka match, all is lost & India will have to come home. But I heard that India are visiting Bangladesh after the world cup. So... Cricket goes on. There will always be more cricket to watch later. Cheers!
