GANGULY IS SELFISH N TIME N AGAIN HES PLAYED SLOWLY. EVEN AGAINST MINNOWS LIKE BERMUDA HE TOOK 155 BALLS FOR HIS 89 OTHER WISE INDIA WLD HAVE CROSSED 450 MARK. HE SHD BE ASKED TO INCREASE HIS STRIKE RATE AT ANY COST IF INDIA WANTS TO WIN
Above calculations are wrong for the case if Bermuda bats first and get all out on 50, If BD makes those run in 5 overs then BD will overtake India NRR.
At present NRR: India = 5 (commulative, 2 matches) BD = -4 (commulative, 2 matches)
If india beats SL by narrow margin say 1 run or in the last ball then their NRR remain same as 5 (commulative, 3 matches).
So BD has to cover a difference of 9 (-4 to 5).
if Bermuda gets out on 50, it means their RR is 1 in that match. so if BD makes that runs in 5 overs it means their RR is 10. So the difference is 9 (10-1). In tat case BD will overtake India

sorry sir! you made the same mistake as the above fellow... it is sum(a,b,c)/sum(d,e,f)... only in case of overs (d,e,f), if a team is all-out in less than 50 overs, their innings is still taken as 50 overs long...
RE:Wrong Calculation
by Arnab Roychoudhury on Mar 22, 2007 08:13 PM Permalink
cumulative sum is not done that way dear... x1/y1 x2/y2 is not equal to (x1 x2)/(y1 y2)... the second one is the cumulative run-rate, while the first one is average of the run-rates (which has no mathematical significance, since all matches do not last equal overs, i.e., y1, y2, y3 are different for each team)... time to get back to Class VII algebra, right buddy?
RE:RE:Wrong Calculation
by Pankaj Garg on Mar 22, 2007 08:16 PM Permalink
you answer your question urself. NRR indeed is a/b added to c/d. Average is taken every match and add those average and then divide by number of matches played.
RE:RE:RE:Wrong Calculation
by Arnab Roychoudhury on Mar 22, 2007 08:21 PM Permalink
cumulative run rate is not average of averages... suppouse u make 300 one day so ave is 6... next day u make 250 all out in 40 overs ave is 6.25... then net runrate is NOT 6.125... it will be 5.50 because in the second match no of overs will be taken as 50...
otherwise all teams would try to make 300 all out in 30 overs, in that case nrr would be 10 which wud be directly averaged... not like that
RE:RE:RE:RE:Wrong Calculation
by Pankaj Garg on Mar 22, 2007 08:25 PM Permalink
Dear Arnab, I am not saying that. In each match you have calculate the difference of averages of two teams, then you add those difference and divide by number of matches played then you will get the NRR. I can bet on that.

You calculation is totaly wrong. In this case, I would prefer rediff. You are just referring bangladesh to -4 per match. But what a word rediff gave to this group... Wow I loved it.. Group of death

Interesting thought!!! I think Bdesh will still sneak in bcoz of the Bermuda factor. Everybody in the Pool will beat Bermuda. But I want the best team to win tomorrow and I believe SriLanka is the better team now.
RE:RE:Rain
by Abhijit Mirajkar on Mar 22, 2007 08:26 PM Permalink
Why not expect 2 better teams to go to super 8, and in that case india is definately better than bangladesh.
RE:Rain
by sp on Mar 22, 2007 08:00 PM Permalink
Simple. There is a reserve day for each game. They will play on saturday. Now don't come to ask what if it rains on Saturday
RE:Rain
by techie Jr on Mar 22, 2007 08:03 PM Permalink
nothing to guess.. its the fact..
There is a reserve day.. Even rain on reserve day.. both SL and IND gets 1 point each and in last match if BAN beats BER, India has to go home. Ohter hand if BER beats BAN, India will be in S-8
Well, we calculated the required run rates and we dont agree with the calculations that give the conditions required for Bangladesh win. We however do agree that India will have a net run rate of 1.67 if the match is just enough close for an Indian win. I belive Bangladesh has the best shot of overhauling India's run rate by batting second. If Bermuda scores 150 and Bangladesh reaches the target in 11 overs, Bangladesh can better India's net runrate of 1.67 If Bangladesh do bat first, they would need to score around 600 and bowl Bermuda out for 0 - virtually impossible !!!

HI Atri,
I given in case of BD chase in 6 overs ... and u r still arguing for 10 overs.. i must assume either u blind or highly dumb fellow to understand rules.. pls go thru cricinfo for runrate analysis...

I just calculated the same thing, but in a different way... just assumed that the SL-BD match of 50 overs... need to figure why the difference is there... thanks anyways !!!

Sameer i agree if India loses now its a windfall for students who are preparing for exams. If the team goes far ahead the students (especially boys), will do very badly.
Also, this time things are getting too tense with Woolmer's death (its getting sick with all the conspiracy theories floating around). So, an early exit will not really matter. Of course few walnuts will throw stones at cricketers house etc. But, who cares the cricketers have so many houses in India and abroad, the whole thing will be nothing more than a small itch for them which will not bother them too much.

iam sure that, India will win the match vs Lanka and shuts the door for Bangladesh, becoz of Saurav is in good form so there is no opening problem, in the middle order Sachin, Yuvi and Dravid(Wall of Indian cricket team) are there, if Dhoni n Sehwag flares well then no body can stop us to reach top-8 and even for semifinals also. To do that our bowlers should bowl well, like AnilKumble(BigB),Zaheer,Bajji, Agarkar n others have to bowl well n fielding should go strong by Indians so that we can save 30-40 runs then it is easy for us.
Being an Indian i Pray n hope for Better India. ALL THE BEST for Dravid & Co best wishes by RAJA.S

Hey, Our Bowling is flop. It melt even against Bangladesh. We can rely on Batting but how on Bwling. We can only win, if we field first. In that case our Batsman have a chance to chase target. They have better idea of target.
Two persons talk about India's Cricket match against Sri Lanka: One person Say: India match haarega!! Person 2: Tumhe apne aap par Itna Bharosa hai?? Person 1: Nahi!!! We have kept all preparations ready to welcome the cricket guys (i won't call this a team as lomg as they start playing like a team)in different places. India can win SL but it is very likely that Sehwag, the silly will play and return back in the second over. Then the downfall of the team begin. These guys deserve good public thrashing, since they have no right to destroy India's WC chnaces. We have kept the tomatoes, eggs and bricks ready for the welcome show. The Welcome group
