Meeting dashing SAM Jee

I have the proud priviledge of meeting Sam, as he was called by fellowmen, at Bakloah. The moment was my school days at Ramjas Senior Secondary School No.5, Karol Bagh, New Delhi 110005, when we were on an NCC Camp.

We were taken to the Base Hospital near Dalhousie, a tiny and picturesque hilly station in Himachal Pradesh. I was lucky to be included in the small contingent to visit the hospital, where the survivors of 1971 war heros were undergoing treatment.

There came the SAM, a young, dashing, shinning Army Officer, who held the reigns of Indian Army afterpartition. I was deeply moved by his warmth he shared with the wounded heros.

There was a young Sardarjee, cadet in the bed, with his right leg kept up with the help of a pulley. SAM jee smilingly shared a moment with him, if SAM could pull the water from the well. The Sardar Jee in his own style nodded. He was in deep pain. SAM jee met each and every soldier and extended his love and affection.

SAM jee was showered the best of salutes by both the uniformed officials and some officials from the wheel chairs and on crutches.

May SAM jee live for ever and our Defence produce many more Field Marshals.
