Indian army faces dire shortage of officers
by Suraj Singh on Jul 26, 2008 12:56 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

India's army, the world's fourth largest, faces a dire shortage of officers because the booming private sector is recruiting the best talent, and may have to consider conscription, its chief says.

Just 86 officer recruits enlisted in the current academic session of the British-built Indian military academy, which had vacancies for 250, officials said.

Meanwhile, 62 of 148 college graduates who passed a separate military entrance test for officers opted out and sought jobs in the private sector.

The recruitment issue has become an urgent priority for the volunteer army after 3,000 mid-level commanders recently sought early retirement on top of an existing shortage of 11,200 officers.

The army needs a total of 46,615 officers.

Another worry "for the forces is that most of those applying are not the right material," army chief General Deepak Kapoor said.

The private sector, which has been luring away India's best talent by offering hefty wages and generous perks, has left the military with poor pickings, commanders say.

"The government and the services cannot compete in matters of salary and perks with the corporate world," Kapoor told reporters last week in New Delhi.

Do you live in Bangalore City? If so, recollect the bomb blast in a church in mahalakshmi layout which was blamed on RSS and BD. It was Sangliana, who caught hold the perpetuators who belonged to Muslim community. If you have doubt, get it clarified from the Police Department of Bangalore.

Do you know Hulimavu in Bannerghatta Road? There is dense muslim population which mostly consist of Bangladeshi illegal immigrants.

During the last fifteen years, most countries in the world have experienced terrorist acts and destruction which 100% has been committed only by Muslims since 1/3rd of their religious script (Quran) advocates only about Jihadi. Criminals are human but not all human are criminals including you. Police knows the real culprit which will be let known very soon. Wait and watch.

RE:Bomb blasts mostly on Fridays...

What is the goverment in the Centre doing will be the first question. Why can't the state goverment get hard. I admire BJP for being a strong party against terror, so what is it doing in Karnataka apart from just blaming the centre for not doing anything. If you keep blaming centre for everything, why are you guys sitting in as the goverment of karnataka. Stop blaming one particular community too. Godhra & Babri Masjid demolition was not done by friday mosque goers!!!

Thats exactly what I am asking!! BJP is known as a communal party which is great!! I admire that, but when a blast happens instead of seeing what can be done, they blame the lame centre policies. Can someone define the roles of the local karnataka goverment in that case or are they a set of guys who are paid with our Income tax returns.

We often see accusations towards Muslims made very strongly, like go to Pakistan, leave our country. All that is good. Can we stop accepting favours from muslim countries. Can we stop going to seek employment in the gulf, can we stop using the oil that comes from the gulf? I think its a big NO. So we want the money, we want the oil but want muslims out!! Lets be logical.

anyone can put a bomb in a crowded local train in mumbai at will.. the population n systems are beyond repair now..
the only way it can be stopped is at the intelligence level before it is executed.. otherwise.. no chance once the plan is in motion..
