My dear, please please show some respect for these men. It is only because of people like them that you & I can take part in this worthless discussion today & not spend our time trying to stay alive.

Thats exactly what my point is. Why should soldiers waste their lives on people like us. Rather than saying great things about it i would analyse the situation and say what is. This whole setup is wrong. Army training should be compulsory. Everyone should spend a few years. No choice. Only then we would be able to understand whats what. Either one should work for an NGO for 2 years or should be in army. Only then our so highly pampered society will change. Writing great things about people dying for nothing is just another lame excuse to pass our guilt.

funny mr. agarwal, we had the same topic in 1995 in my NDA interview in Dehradun. Hmmmm. My take was it should be, but thinking of it, won't have worked as India is a democracy and the constitution gives every individual the right to choose. It also provides guidelines as to what is anti national and there my friend comes the flaw, the politicians. What a pity, we (me included) keep typing away to glory on our ideology but are so weak or meak as to never create a party based on a true idealogy. I wish the movie YUVA (Ajay Devgan story) truly becomes a reality in India

you are bro..democracy definitely comes in the way. But I think there is a solution to that. Even if people are not sent, they must be trained. Every single boy and girl should be trained. That would definitely increase the number. Also you are right we are included in the category of 'do nothing'. Kuch karna hai ye to man karta hai lekin kya ye nahin malum. Hope I dont die in this dilemma. Did you check out 'chak de' song. very inspiring. 'koi to chal zid phadiye, doobe tariye ya mariye'. beautiful.

Holding a gun, slouching on a terrain, waiting for muhammad ghori? sorry dude your sacrifice couldnt save it. Better luck next time.

chaitanya world is obviously wrong. Just read the newspaper and you will find which specie rules the world and why world is what it is. I still maintain that we are not worth dying for. These soldiers are wsting their precious lives for people like us who sit and sing praises but when it comes to real work we hide ourselves behind the walls of illusion. Obviously I don't dont need any support for my views because I know what I am talking about.

you cannot hurt my ego becuse I dont have one. you know why??? here.. "ye mahalon ye takhton ye tajon ki duniya, ye insaan ke dushman samajon ki duniya, ye daulat ke bhookhe rawazon ki duniya ye dunya agar mil bhi jaaye to kya hai?
jahan ek khilona hai insaan ki hasti, ye basti hai murda paraston ki basti, yahan par to jeevan se hai maut sasti, ye duniya agar mil bhi jaaye to kya hai,
jawani bhatakti hai badkar ban kar, jawan jism sajte hain bazar ban kar, yahan pyar hota hai vyapar ban kar, ye duniya agar mil bhi jaaye to kya hai,
ye duniya jahan admi kuch nahin hai, wafa kuch nahin dosti kuch nahin hai, jahan pyar ki kadr hi kuch nahin hai, ye duniya agar mil bhi jaaye to kya hai,"
:> sure you'll see what I mean. I dont blame you. we are all the same. Mere mortals.

I read all the replies. How wrong everybody is. Nobody joins the forces for the love of the country. They join because of the good life they can get and the thrill of the uniform and the respect they get in the society. It is a permenant job and they are cared for even after the retirement.Apart from the pay there are other benefits also. They take risk ofcourse. But they join after balancing everything. I will always recomend a young man to join the services for smartness and good life. Ofcourse they take risk and for that I respect them.

You idi*ot. Do you think it is a joke to get into the NDA, forget even surviving the course? Anyone who can make it into the NDA could have waltzed into any stupid BPO job for twice the salary or more. It is their desire to serve the country and their idealism that makes them join. Don't insult them with your cheap thinking

hi all.... all were thinkin of the officers in defence forcer.... an officer enjoys far betterthan a sepoy...am i right?...still india have many folds lower cadre jawans than officers....getting less, suffering more...still more in number....yet i can say they join deffence force because they need a job to feed their family...dont u think so?

hey martin, granted my friend, that for the lower cadres, it serves dual purpose, money is the motivation as well. but don't u think that once they join, they r single, but after they get married and have children, they also have dreams and aspirations? Also, have you ever noticed, that most of the lower cadres has someone in their family serving the nation? It becomes a trend for the lower cadre who take pride in serving after a while. Thus the two fold reasons, earn while you maintain the tradition and I my friend am absolutely proud of them. It does take guts (specially in the Army).

i salute the person who said that "Twenty years from now, men will be ready to die for me, but not for you."
i salute these men who are willing to go through the grind(?) and stand as tall sentinels for the netas, babus and ofcourse the large majority of the corrupted, greedy, selfish and pathetic populace of our land. nations with people who have unselfish love for their country have progressed.we need more patriots who are willing tosacrifice. cheering our men in blue(ofcourse only when they are winning-again so very indian) seems the most we can do to exhibit our patrioism. we are a rich people but a poor nation.its time for the netas and babus to wake up.
If officers think that soldiers give their lives for them, they must be in dreamland. No one sacrifices lives for a superior officer and its dangerous for them to think so. The only reason for anyone to give up their lives is for the country, or their comrades. Some in our officer cadre are probably one of the most feudal in the world, thinking nothing of using soldiers or "other ranks" for menial jobs in their homes. They need to wake up and realize that it's now the 21st Century and learn from armies in other democratic countries.
"20 years from now, men will be ready to die for me, but not for you." What does this sentence mean? Soldiers die for their country, not their commanding officers or colleagues.

well i believe what he meant was soldiers would be ready to sacrifice their their life for our country at his command whereas his friends who will be earning a lot more than himwould not find even their own relatives and friends to sacrifice even if the person spent his entire earnings on them

kachra seth, take out the kachra from your mind. when on the battlefield in a complex and uphill battle, one has to trust the officer he serves with his own life. If the officer says 'charge', the true soldier will charge even if chances are that that he will be killed within 10 seconds of charging. This, he does, knowing and trusting that the officer has a solid plan! There is a level of trust in this relationship which is not present in that of a manager and a subordinate. This is what the quote means.
