terrorism at the olympics
by Guest on Aug 08, 2008 01:37 AM  Permalink

terrorism at the olympics thrives because of a defect at the games themselves, the modern games are not held under Ekecheiria,or Truce by countries, themselves so its not being honored by the terrorists either , the solution is not more security, but countries putting a moratorium on their political agentas for the duration of the games and actually holding to it /this will not hurt any country the world will be the same 15 days later, for them to start their bickering,
the faaly of security is evident in the fact that china has staioned anti aircrft missiles around the stadium, nobody fathoms what happens if one of these missiles operators is a terrorist himself,
again the solution is back to basics back to Ekecheiria, makis havajias is the author of the book The Achilles heel of modern olympics ...congretizing the concept of truce for the modern olympics and president of the non profit Monument of the immortals foundation tmoti.org

pathetic
by Ram Alegavi on Aug 08, 2008 12:01 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

It is most embarrassing that India a country of over a billion people cannot win even a single gold medal. Shame on the media for promoting cricket. I think sports media people in India are mentally retarded brainless fools that is why they dont have the knowledge to write about any other sports. Any fool and idiot and mentally retarded person can write about cricket that is how the sports media people earn their living in India

Sitting in a safe place of the kitchen it is very easy to lament saying that India cannot win even a single medal. Are you not an Indian? Can you go and win a medal?

Its nothing wrong with the Media Ram. Do you want badminton, Football played by India, Boxing, Athletics if they telecast on TV. They too want to earn their money. So they will telecast the sports with more viewership. We shouldnt blame them but we should blame ourselvs.

To all those who criticised Raman
by Vinod Warrier on Aug 07, 2008 11:36 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

What Raman said is correct. We are proud that an Asian nation is hosting the most expensive and spectatcular Olympics till date. The western nations are so eager to find fault with China and I appreciate they do a brilliant job amongst all such adversities. And India indeed will learn many things on how to conduct Olympics in the next 30 years. For people who commented on human rights, loot at our own country. We have been rated with Pakistan for our wonderful human rights records. So please don't be too emotional in criticising Mr.Raman.

Hey, Asian countries have already organized Olympics...there is nothing so great about it anymore. What's the point? You feel inferior to white skin or what?

Attitudes of Indian people
by Prashanth on Aug 07, 2008 10:25 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I can understand the author's compulsions being a paid consultant. He was there to perform a task and being part of his job. In addition also to please his employers to a certain extent.

But I dont understand many Indians' attitude when they talk about India's progress in the 21st century they also include China! They always say 'India and China...'. Either that or they are part of "South Asia". As if for them being part of India is somehow embarrassing or not important enough.

well Prasanth, you got it right all the way. The use of the word 'South Asia' is very deliberate and is being popularised in the global media just to belittle India and made India look like it is the same as Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka etc. Instead we should be using the term 'Greater India' as Rajeev Srinivasan rightly suggests.

Raman's doodles and Ramen Noodles
by Brij D on Aug 07, 2008 09:32 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Inexplicably, Raman has doodled on the 'problems faced by China', as if India should worry about that. Does China worry that Pakistani jihadis have created an Islamist hell in Kashmir? No, it does not.
Trying to be more Chinese than an average Chinaman is ludicrous. Cut down on those noodles, Mr. Raman.

Raman has lost both his soul and self-respect.
by Vishnu Sharma on Aug 07, 2008 09:32 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

This is the problem with most Indians.

Level-headedness and professionalism is completely absent.

He does not know how to be self-composed and collected.

He has lost all credibility in the eyes of many readers.

He clearly belongs to a mental asylum in china along with N Ram of the Hindu.

SUrprised
by sri on Aug 07, 2008 09:01 PM  Permalink

I am very surprised at Mr. Raman's emotions. If he had emotional ties to China I could understand it but he doesnt. Typical India emotions - we give ourselves to everyone to make them feel good. Raman should have been more professional in his responses instead of displaying such emotional gratitude to China just for giving him their attention!

Its a big event
by Indian on Aug 07, 2008 08:52 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Hosting Olympics is not a small thing - its a big big event with the whole worlds eyes on it. China for all reasons wants to suceed and using all opportunities to make it sucessful.
And to all those who critisize, please open your eyes and applaud them who are trying hard to make it sucessful. Why dont we realise that the whole world also sees Kashmir just like some of you see Tibet to be. Why do you only have to write bitter things in all the responses? Having lived in China for the past 2 years, i can tell you that Chinese are one of the best people. Lets learn to appreciate just like Mr. Raman is trying to do!
