Thats what Dr Sukhbir Singh has mentioned. Does this mean that all rickshaw drivers represent OBC ? What about those poor people from general category who also drive rickshaws ? From where will they get 99% to compete with their "backward" colleagues who are privilieged with an admission for a mere 50 % ? So now his argument is based on economic backwardness, which even general category candidates are willing to accept.

Shouldn't the general category pull rickshaw for 100 or more years to be eligible?
There was a significant percentage of OBCs and SC/ST and NT/DT guys in our batch....barring a few of them, the rest of them were very sincere and hardworking and some of them were quite intelligent too...
However, my observation was the upper caste Marathis, South Indians and to some extent the Gujaratis almost ostracized them in all 4 years of engineering....
The Upper caste guys would typically form project groups amongst themselves...travel from home to collge together and even enjoy and have fun together.... Almost as if these guys did not exist...simply put, many of these guys who come on seat are either ignored or patronized or ridiculed....but they are never treated as equals..
Now, as you people know, engineering or medical, it is all about teamwork...you can't exists in a vacuum and work in isolation, it is all about team work and team peojects and practicals...
This also means that these guys on reserved seats can't get the inputs and learning from the brightest students in the batch and generally tend to form groups amongst themselves..
So, the end result is that many of them do badly in their 4 years in engineering and end up with multiple KTs(failures) which translates to many of them not being able to complete their degrees in 4 years....
The point i'am making is that if upper caste students are more accepting and inclusive, these weaker students would have a steeper learning curve and they would be able to feed off on the values that we cheri

If what you say is true, it is reprehensible. May be there was an exception here and there. But I have my own doubts if majority of students is like that, not even in the most casteists of states like U.P. and Bihar.

I dinno that caste existed until such a time as I tried to get into a college.....whereupon I learnt that forward caste doesnt really mean that you are treated well, but rather looked down upon as an usurper of other people's rights. I dont intend to help anyone who has such an attitude. And, whether you like it or not, this attitude exists in every MBC/BC/SC/ST person.

During my engineering college days, I had a friend. Long after we became engineers, did I come to know that he was a SC and getting some benefits, though he was from a rich family. They were 3 brothers, the eldest was in business, the middle one was also an engineer working in Canada.
Why should such rich people deserve reservation, just bcoz they r SC/St/OBC?

Dingbat, that you can't change. Do the upper castes directly trouble them to come up in their life. If not, you just have to live with it. That is sad but that is how it is all over the world. The idea is, in the future when they come up things would change for good. And it is changing definitely!

Pro-reservationists are the greatest casteists this country has ever known. They are the ones who are spreading the myth, that a certain section of the society of the society is or was genetically weaker and cannot compete with its peers on its own, and hence needs the permanent crutches of reservation. Dear Friend..Don't worry. They are excluded from the list of OBC , because of creamy layer exclusion. Even a OBC/SC/ST's father drawing more than 2.5 lacs per annum is not eligible.Supreme court has given s splendid verdict , which is acceptable to every group.

Supreme Court of India has justified the cause of sharing national wealth by giving equal opportunities as well as protecting right of the weaker section of the society. We have been observing in all walks of life that it is deliberately projected and reinforced in the minds of people that weaker section of society are genetically weaker and does not possess intellectual and knowledgebase to qualify for the better options available to upper caste of the society. This myth spreading is strategic weapon used and many educated people come under influence and discriminate unjustly with these socially backward class.
This is heinous crime against humanity to practice apartheid, racisms and social discrimination and very ugly to justify this act criticizing wildly the corrective measures of Supreme Court. Entire nation knows how weaker section of the society are deprived by manipulation and craft tactics by showing unavailability, delay and internally under operating or operating internally against vacancies in the name of austerity measures, the legitimate vacancies of weaker section are awarded to the upper caste candidates.
