"Jaggannatha" the lord of the universe, whose diameter is several billion light years. In accordance to hindu scriptures their are millions of such universes, that too on three different planes (physical, astral and causal).
Do you think such a one can be insulted ??? we need to enlarge our notions of Jaggannatha beyond temple premises. More importantly we need to prevent misuse in his name and that is more important than correcting a few morons who make websites for commercial purposes.

stav,
What do you understand by the term caste ?, you have been brainwashed to believe caste == slavery like the millions of websites, this is nothing short of hitlers third reich.
Caste is a profession, and by no means give a superiority or inferiority to people, i do agree people have mis used this for their own personal, but again who has not misused the system for their own personal gains

Pavan,
Caste is character not profession. "Swa dharma" is what determines caste,
one choses profession which suits one character. Importantly Character is not determined by birth and hence caste is not determined by birth, unlike its version today. The caste system we have today is kaliyuga misinterpretation of our scriptures.

Celebs like Aishwarya Rai who get to reach a massive USA audienc through shows like Oprah should bring this issue to the attension of US people. Rather than show oprah to wear a Saree, i think she could use this opportunity to defend our gods. I do not think there is a better opportunity than this to reach such a massive US audience

Everone knows that they can get away with insulting Hindus & their religious sentiments as long as the secular Congress is in power. Why cant they put Sonias & Manmohans fotos on their underwears? If it were some Islamic issue, then the Govt will work overtime to protest as in the latest case of a Sudanese students naming a doll as Mohamad or Rushdie, Taslima or the cartoon issues.

Defend which God? There are billions of Gods in India. Each village has its own.

It was only during the bhakti movement that Ram and Krishna became popular as a socio-political opposition to Muslims.

Pre-Islamic India followed real saints like Bhuddha and Mahavir. Almost all old temples in India are dedicated to Shiv/Buddha/Mahavir. Ram and Krishna were not even known to the Indus valley civilization.

Huh? Karunanidhi is an atheist, so technically he questions ALL religions, not just hinduism (though the case you mention pertains to hinduism, true). Anyway, nothing can be done. It's a US website, and US freespeech laws allow it (they make so much fun of Jesus, God and other christian figures, and this is protected under free speech). This is just a bunch of clowns trying to gain some free publicity as the protectors of hindutva.

Puri and its Pandas
by bikash sahay on Dec 17, 2007 08:49 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

It is very bad to hurt somebody's religious sentiment. I come to know that some of the pandas at the Lord Jagganath Temple do not allow any body other than brown skinned Indian. A person with brown skin does not mean it is devotee of Lord. Many of Europeans and Americans are Krishna devotee (monks) and they are more devote than general Indian community but, they are not allowed to see the deity because their skin is not brown. These people need to change their attitude and be rational.

Do not they fear the repercussions of their short term evil on them as well as rest of the world?
Will they take the money after death, so earned by insulting Gods and leaders?
People in America or anywhere should learn to respect and behave in civilised manner.

People in America - aren't we going a little overboard in generalizing stuff? In that case, should people in India stop abusing their own gods? (Karunanidhi) Or, should people in India stop discriminating against their own brethren ? (like untouchability) ... Generalizing I submit is dangerous.

INSULT TO NAME AND IMAGE OF HINDU GODS
by ghenda on Dec 17, 2007 08:22 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Hinduism is not a religion in the strictest sense; it is a way of life. Hinduism or Hindu religion is the most tolerant religion and Hindus, unlike followers of other religion, do not react when someone criticises the Hindu Gods or Hinduism.

A true Hindu believes in %u201CVasudeva Kutumbakam%u201D in other words %u201Cworld as one family%u201D. Universal brotherhood is inbuilt in Hindu culture. By and large, Hindus do not hurt the feelings and sentiments of others. None of the Hindu literature will ever criticise or belittle other religious literature.

On the contrary, several instances of other religious literature criticizing Hinduism, Hindu Gods and philosophy are plenty. This is resorted to by others, as there are no protests by Hindus. Only since the recent past, organisations such as VHP are opposing such instances.

Some unscrupulous companies used images of Lord Ganesha on footwear and the images of God Hanuman on the underwear etc. These products were withdrawn from the markets after protests by Hindus in the USA.

The present instance of using of images of Jagannath, Balaram and Hanuman on the apparels needs condemnation by all right thinking people irrespective of religious faiths. Using the name or image of any God of any religious faith for the purpose of business is a crime and will definitely hurt the sentiments of followers of that religion. Perpeters of this crime should be punished severely.

Hurting the sentiments of other religions should be condemned. But Hinduism or Hindu religion doesnt promote universal brother hood. Hinduism divides people on cast basis like Bramhins, sudras etc.Vasudeva kutumbam is mere farce.

Islam has caused more death and destruction than any deaseas or Cyclone or earthquake. This is why Islam is the biggest deaseas on this earth.

Hinduism as a religion never existed. It was Shaivite or Vaishanavite philosophy whichever ruled the roost (or the mind of the kings who ruled) that contested for the religious space in India with Buddhism / Jainism. Some body really smart combined both Shaivism and Vaishnavism and called it Hinduism.

And about the "way of life" claim, every religion claims to be so. So that is no USP or claim worth crowing about.

What ails the most popular religion in India (we can call it whatever name we want) is unity amongst its constituents. This is, I guess, a consequence of its stilted interpretation of the Manu Smriti... which divided people on the basis of occupation, which got manipulated to divide them on the basis of their birth amidst stratification of society.
