So, Sade Raho Munnabhai in Jail - Its good for the country and our Justice system. We can trust on it now even more

Ask the family of ppl who got killed in 1993blast
by Tina Punjabi on Aug 02, 2007 10:00 PM

It is indeed very well written..Mr Shenoy is writing about Mr Sanjay Dutt, only to make us realise that there are better things to worry about-things which will affect us in daily life.Agreed Police and the judiciary system havent yet worked to their full mark, but why criticise the work which they do? atleast they are doing something. And not to forget..next time, be it a star or any celebrity, everyone will remember the fate of Mr Sanjay Dutt and act accordingly.

Finally someone speaks sense!
by on Aug 02, 2007 10:00 PM

You are very much right Mr Shenoy, I am glad someone fianlly talked sense about Dutt's 'suffering' and about his being a 'role model' for youth. Mr Dasmunshi said that anyone who does not feel campasionate about Dutt needs to check with a cardiologist to verify whether he has a heart, but I feel the 'honourable' minister needs to check with a neurologist whether he has a brain or not!

right but......

Mr.Shenoy, I agree that Sanjay Dutt is not above law only because of his celebrity status, but please answer, why govt. failed to catch Dawood Ibrahim main culprit of bomb blast ? why police fail to catch Nadim of (nadim shravan) killer of Gulshan Kumar ? Why 1 of every 10 houses in Bihar, UP and MP having AK 47 or any other guns without licences, police not doing any thing? why Indian laws allowed to a person, who are facing either case or serious penalties of murdering someone but still being our MPs? Why Indians have to chose a person as a president who is in conflicts to escape his brother from murder case? why RamRahim dera chief is still out, was pointed out by high court for murder and rape investigation? There are many "why" i could list down here. I BELIEVE, IN LAST 14 YEARS, SANJAY DUTT HAS PROVEN HIS CHARACTER TEST POSITIVE BY CONTRIBUTING FILMS LIKE MUNNABHAI OR LAGE RAHO ETC., TO THE SOCIETY OF INDIA. ITS NOT A BAD THING TO HAVE GOOD FEELING FOR SANJAY DUTT WHILE HE WENT INSIDE JAIL FOR SIX YEARS BUT I MEAN TO SAY MANY SERIOUS CULPRITS ARE STILL ENJOYING OUTSIDE SO LET SANJAY DUTT BE OUT SIDE AND CONTRIBUTING GOOD MOVIES

What Kashmir problems has to do with Judge Khode's decision - It does not fall under his jurisdiction. You not have written this, had one of your keen been among victims. Pathetic comments. The way are GAGA over him, you would have gone to prision in lieu of Dutt's time

Spock the Vulcan
Most sensible article on this case so far
by Spock the Vulcan on Aug 02, 2007 09:40 PM

Honestly, you are one of the very few reporters making sense in your writing. It feels refreshing to read such articles in the midst of crappy tv journalism (read IBN, TimesNow, NDTV etc).

Ive wondered too, why no journalist ever bothered to ask the victims of the blast, how do they feel. If people are sympathizing Dutt, it only means they are supporting terrorism too and when they feel the pinch of terrorism someday (they sure will), they will know what "supporting terrorism" means. Those who think Dutt's punishment is harsh, please go back, read those newspapers, see those images and relive those tragic moments.

You were only wrong on one count: You said that reporters love to keep their microphones in celebrity nose. Not true. They actually would like to keep it in their a**. Now we can expect the "Latest WIND-breaking news" in the tv channels.

How can Sanjay Dutt be a role model?
by BostonPunekar on Aug 02, 2007 09:38 PM  | Hide replies

I TOTALLY AGREE with Mr Shenoy. If Paris Hilton has to spend a month in jail just for a drive under alcohol offence and have her license suspended for a year, It shows the power of Judiciary in the US that keeps the faith of people on it.

Comming to Mr Sanjay Dutt..What was he doing with 2 AK 56? and Granedes that to some 46 of them??? Do you need those as something that you buy off hand just like that as a Vada pav or a Bhutta???

Do common people of hand talk and pay visits to Chota Shakeel? To Dawood ? To Anees Ibrahim? to

Abu Salem?

Do the most feared gangsters like Abu Salem visit our houses regularly to delever arms or to pick them up???

If you have sucha well elaborate credentials? Why in the first place should you expect that you be pardoned?

If the same list of offenses that Sanjay Dutt has commited was commited by a common man he by this time would have been bumped either rival gangs or would have been "encountered" by the Mumbai Police.

If we do not have respect for the Law of land and pardon each and every persons just because they behave well now so do you pardon them for the crimes commited by them 14 years ago?

What abt the 500 killed people and the 3000 permanantly disabled surviors of the 1993 Mumbai Blasts who have lived every day in misery and who waited 14 years for justice???

Can doing good deeds now bring back the lives taken 14 years ago?? Should you pardon them now?? Atleast I disagree on that.

Justice should prevail.

Missing the whole point of justice
by Naresh Kumar on Aug 02, 2007 09:37 PM  | Hide replies

I think the article misses the whole point of the furious debate surrounding Sanjay's Dutt's sentence.
So Sanjay Dutt was 34 in 1993. So he took drugs and drank heavily. So he acted like an immature and impetuous fool. So he is hardly a role model for youth.
SO what's the point - that he therefore deserves 6 years in jail, and no sympathy??
Sanjay Dutt has been conclusively cleared of any links with the blasts. He has been charged with illegally owning a firearm. It is against this that his sentence should be seen.

And in this context, one needs to remember another thing- the whole point of punitive law, of punishment, is not revenge. It is to make sure that people who exhibit tendencies to become a menace to society, and other human beings, are curbed from becoming a real threat in the future.

Since 1993, Sanjay has conducted himself impeccably. He is widely acknowledged as a person woth a golden heart. He is the first to help anyne who needs it, and has been associated with various causes. He is clearly no threat to society today, and he wasn't earlier- he had no connection with the blasts, a point that was acknowledged even by the officer who arrested him. As for talking to Chhota Shakeel, you try putting down the phone when a don calls you!
Yes, the Bombay blasts were a great tragedy- the loss to life and limb are irreplaceable. But in retaliation, we start baying for the blood of anyone who is even remotely connected, irrespective of whether he is guilty or not

Mr Naresh Kumar: No, in fact you missed the point like Ganguly swinging & embarassingly missing a ball.

Dutt is receiving punishment for what he did in 1993 and not for what he is after 1993. If he had shown that good conduct before 1993, may be 500 people wouldnt have been dead. You are neither a victim, nor you dont know any victims. You dont know the suffering of all these years. All those certificates of golden heart doesnt matter to justice. These certificates are given by Bollywood, who have invested money in him. They dont care a hoot, if Dutt isnt as popular. Think about if it had been a second grade artist, would you or Bollywood be showing such sympathy? In short Dutt got what he deserved, though a little too late. Period.

Mr. Vulcan

looks like it's you who has missed MY point.
What he did in 1993 was to illegally purchase a firearm. I repeat, he has been conclusively cleared of all charges pertaining to any involvement with the blasts, so talk of 500 people dead, and whether I am a victim or not, is irrelevant in this case. My point is also not that he is a first rate or third rate actor- it's simply that the only charges against him are illegally possessing a fire-arm- nothing else. In this context, 6 years does seem too harsh, ESPECIALLY given his behaviour since, not because of.
