So Very True !
by Samarth D. Patwardhan on Jul 12, 2006 07:20 PM  Permalink

India needs to wake up! I guess that is exactly what each Indian is thinking right now. Its been enough of slumber and non-profitable bilateral-and-diplomacy-clouded-talks. Result of all these - Nil.

Is there a way citizens can urge the government to take a stern action against people who are masterminding such horrendous incidents? I guess even if there is a movement like that, we will get the usual response from the government - "We are currently in the process of confidence building measures. Diplomacy takes time to happen. We all should be patient"

Well, its been 13 years that we have been patient, since the first attacks on BSE.

There is a limit to everybody's patience, which I am sure has run out long ago.

India - Wake up, ruthlessly go to war, and bring justice for all the innocent lives that suffered these traumatic times.

gruesome tale
by guddy on Jul 12, 2006 07:19 PM  Permalink

hi,

Read the article written by Mr.SaiSuresh.

See, there should be some discussion with all the senior leaders and all the army, navy, airforce generals, top intelligence people concerned to safeguard our nation.Common, how long has India decided to be just facing such gruesome incidents. All the antisocial elements know that India cannot fight terrorism and they can do anything they want.

What have we done to the terrorists all these years?Just as Mr.Saisuresh say, not even a fly has been punished. The gulf countries have a law to hang anyone who is even carrying a drug packet , here in our country even after many years we are sitting and praying for peace which may never happen.

So what if our prime minister and our neighbouring prime minister sit and talk, the terrorists are doing what they like and we citizens of India , one billion and more of us are shutting our mouths?

Today it has been Bombay, next can be bangalore, then some other place. How can we lose our near and dear ones like this? For what?To face a situation where in the family loses a person is horrific.Just saw the images and it sends shivers. This is what the terrorists want. They aresucceedingandwhatisourlawdoing

The Might of the Indian State
by Ramdas Iyer on Jul 12, 2006 07:18 PM  Permalink

Wonderful article. The author has put into words what many in India today feel. As he says of what use is spending millions on making missiles and celebrating the day you tested a nuclear device as the National Technology Day and puuting a man who designs missiles on the chair of the President if you have no use for these missiles. Shouldnt Dr. Kalam as the Commander in Chief of the Indian army urge the proper use of the missiles he helped design? Of what use is a government which snoops around peoples minor transactions in cunning ways and taxes them but then doesnt use the money so collected to protect the lives of these citizens?

Hats off .................continued

Why are we just talking about the Kashmir Issue for the last 55 years? Needless to say, the Kashmir problem can be solved in few days but neither the Indian government nor the Pakistan Government wants to solve the Kashmir problem due to power and vote-bank politics. It is imperative that political and religious leaders are given strict instructions not to make provocative speeches and such speeches should be treated as a non-bailable offence. These fundamentalist leaders further incite the terrorist elements who then reply with bomb blasts killing innocent people. The serial blast in Mumbai was nothing but an act of cowardice. The authorities should immediately investigate about the identity of the terrorists and punish them severely by hanging them in public without any delay. Why does the media has to show dead bodies, mutilated bodies of the victims incessantly?

Impotent state
by Prasanna on Jul 12, 2006 07:16 PM  Permalink

Ours is an impotent state lacking the will to protect its citizens.

This is a low-intensity war waged by elements which are not nation-states and consequently responses must be different. We cannot really rely on regular judicial and international treaties to bring them to justice.

There is no real way to prevent these things from happening. Its far too easy to perpetrate such attacks. But what we can and should do is to raise the stakes. Track each of these dogs down and eliminate them whereever they are. If necessary have them assassinated if we lack the muscle to twist the arms of the nation-states harbouring them.

Its time India left its pseudo-nonviolent passive role and defended its citizens.

I support your viewpoint Saisuresh. But there's more to it I guess.
A perspective that we need to keep in mind is the no of 'homegrown' terrorists that we seem to possess. None of the other nations, face as much threat from within as probably we do. This weakness is what external agencies exploit in creating terror.
How do we identify these 'budding' terror houses and even if we do how do we justify action against them before they have committed an act of terrorism?

Mr Sheikh if u think that thyis si going to stop once we give kashmir then u r living in a dream . Moreover u cannot compare kashmir to switzerland. And kashmir was always a part of india.Just bcoz it has muslim majority it doesnt mean it has to be with pakistan or an independent state at all.
