hyped news
by ashish on Aug 26, 2006 12:40 PM  Permalink

It was more of a hype creatd by media. news channels painted the items like "Racial discrimination" OR "insult to indians".

In current context of increased terrorist incidents we should must learn first to behave ourselves and act as per code of conduct in flight and remain disciplined , otherwise it is quite natural to be under suspicion.

Fact is that that Marshals got suspicious, raised the alarm , inquiered thoroughly and finally when they found innocent they were released .what can be more fair than this ?

Security of Air Passengers
by Khanna on Aug 26, 2006 12:34 PM  Permalink

It is good that the 12 stranded passengers of the North-West flight returned to India without any harmto them. By their reprehensible behaviour, boisterously shouting, exchanging seats, laptops, mobile etc., despite clear warning against it by the crew, they made themselves responsible for the circumstances they were put to. They behaved as if they were traveling in a 3-tire coach of Indian Railways unmindful of the present day norm expected of an air-passenger.

What I appreciate is that the Dutch authorities let them off within 30 hrs without any harm to them. What would have been the fate of any Indian in a similar bind say in Pakistan or Bangladesh!

One should not forget the fate of one of our an ex-ministers who had to face much more indignity at a US airport in the wake of 9/11 and for the reasons best known to him he endured it without a fuss at that time.

For the security of one and all, it is natural that we have to forfeit some of our freedom at some strategic time and location. It is immaterial whether you are a Muslim or a non-Muslim.

Cancelled Northwest flight lands

You dont have to blame the Dutch authorities or the Marshal. You have to learn to behave and keep manners in the public. Unfortunately, very few Indians have this quality. I hope this will be a lesson for those who do not respect laws and manners.

Bad treatment of Indians
by Pankaj on Aug 26, 2006 11:25 AM  Permalink

I think the way indians were treated in amsterdam was bad.Indian foreign ministry should send a message to the countries in europe and US that they should not take any indian for granted. They should not think that they can do anytrhing, they want and they should have a valid reason for doing all this.

Infact they should first consult indian govt for taking action against any indian anywhere in the world.

We should clear in our message abt this.

Ridiculous
by panakat ameeruddin on Aug 26, 2006 11:13 AM  Permalink

India should show the world that our citizens cannot be taken for granted. Had this happened to some Westerners in an Air India flight the western oriented world media would have blown up the issue. Our citizens are equally important as any other nations citizens.

Indian Governement should take a strong stand.

Why should these Westerners believe that any one with a beard are a terrorist.

Regards
Panakat

What was the need to behave impoperly in the flight
by V S Chakravarthy on Aug 26, 2006 11:04 AM  Permalink

From whatever is revealed so far, it appears that these 12 passengers had been behaving improperly in the flight and not following the instructions of the crew. What was the need to behave in that manner. Is it their beleif that as they get away with whatever behaviour of theirs in India owing to their minority status the same would be applicable in other parts of world. It was quite foolish on their part to have improperly behaved in the flight especially in the wake of threats to airlines and the heightened security arrangements all over. They should be thankful to all authorities concerned that verifications have been done quickly and there was an end to the ordeal at the earliest.
They felt that they were illtreated because of handcuffing in presence of all other passengers. What about their behaviour in front of all other passengers, do they think it was appropriate? If there is a suspicion how else you would expect the police to act? Surely terrorists do not have any label pasted on their foreheads. They look very much like us like any other common men but can be dangerous to others nearby when cornered. There is no need to add motives to the bonafide actions.

Cancelled Northwest flight lands

Although I think that the passengers themselves are responsible for their misery alongwith trouble to other co-passengers, still Indian Govt should lodge a strong protest against the treatment by Duych. It is shame to so called white skin fellows.
