Whether India has to deal with a "democracy" or a "despot" should not matter; it is in India's interest that the Maoist's do not overrun Nepal. It is sickening to see such Neheruvian views being expressed when we are in a harsh world where the US rewards a nuke-selling Pak just to get its job done. India should learn to live the same way in foreign policy - use principles only when they suit us.
Who gains if Nepal buys weapons from Pakistan (they readily offered the King of Nepal the weapons when India refused) and China and not from India? China wants to corner India having already gulped Tibet. Pakistan wants to keep its ISI churning in the border states with Nepal thru Madarsas and keep India's communal pot boiling. And this author does not care? These Communists/Maoists are anti-nationals...their views should not be given promince. Jai Hindu. A proud Indian Salim Pathan, Nashik
The author is a confirmed communist of the worst kind. I dont know why rediff gives him credibility by publishing his propaganda. If he could he'd sell his mother to China.
Mr. Bidwai is at it again! It seems Mr. Bidwai does not have something useful and worthwhile to do in life. First, he is a member of the lunatic fringe group that goes lighting candles at the India-Pakistan border. He had instigated a case against Delhi police for shooting the Pakistani terrorists at Ansal Plaza right around Diwali 2003. And BTW, Mr. Bidwai is a known communist and a supporter of Naxalites and their reprehensible actions in India. In fact, he was awarded in a Naxalite held ceremony just last year. By his past actions, he seems more anti-national than national. Taking his advice especially on national security would be tatamount to appeasement of terrorists at least if not downright insane. It is high time that the communists like Mr. Bidwai realize the consequences for their actions, cause just as in the past their actions have only emboldened terrorists and belittled human rights of Indian citizens, which they think are champions of. Mr. Bidwai please stop your nonsense and clear the internet bandwidth for India's security and prosperity sake. Please stop your support of anti-nationals or better yet find another worthy employer.
I am skeptic about authors views. It is true that we all donno what is going on in Nepal. The media is tight. But an article by Mishra in BBC calls the king as a shrewed tactician.
i think the prime minister Singh is aided by intelligence and would have a knowledge about whats going on. prime minister singh wouldn't be deceived by the king of nepal. we have to wait and see.
i am an ardent supporter of maintaining strong geopolitical harmony with nepal bhutan and srilanka, maldives while we cannot do so with pakis or bangladesh because of the islamist regimes.
we need to support our neighbours aswell as support them and develop them as much as we can.
This article is same as sahabuddin of bihar flaunting laser guided missile in siwan and lalu saying that the raid on his home unconstitutional. Any sane person reads clearly that this article is not written by any sane mind! and is rather dangerous for the security of the country! I think the author should have a clear idea of what nation is and why does the national boundaries exist-(relevent because author says pakistan is playing a small game!) its different that pakistan cannot play a big game but its game are always nasty. The leftists have never understood this question, the reason they betrayed congress and other independence movement in support of british.
I completely endorse governments stance on nepal in my own capacity!
Thank God this guy is a relic of the past and all he can do is bark! I cannot imagine a situation where this kind of thinking actually influences state policy!! This guy has virtually absolved the murderous maoists of any crime! A bunch of thugs powered by pseudo ideology and violence, creating havoc in any country will be opposed with the maximum force possible by any government. I guess for comrade Bidwai it's ok if China massacres a couple of hundred unarmed protestors, but it's 'repression' when criminals are hunted down by a country's army...of course the fact that the country is officially 'Hindu' plays perfectly into the good comrade's sense of secular indignation. Not a word is said of the more than 10000 people killed by these maoist hordes in the last eight years. Not a word is mentioned about the absolute refusal of the maoists to be involved in any kind of civilized political process. Some pearls of wisdom from the Marxist saint: "India should not worry much about China and Pakistan becoming Nepal's substitute arms-suppliers"; The Maoists political platform: "a representative, radicalised, democracy"...give me a break, and get this guy some reality soup!
