I wish i had more time to reply but then this article doesnt deserve it.Mr praful Bidwai it seems live in his own world of thoughts which has nothing to do with reality.

We have much longer border with pakistan and much deeper historic ties ..does that mean we shud make it the real point to drive our foriegn policy.

Cuba doesnt share a border with russia mr bidwai niether does north korea..but if u have read history revoultionary needs only motivation and belief.

a typical communist reactionary view
by Vishwamithran on May 06, 2005 09:30 AM  Permalink

A typical communist reactionary view! Only Mr Bidwais and the like can think that the apprehensions on Maoists extending their terrorist activities into India is a hyped up notion. I think that Mr Bidwai needs a good study in International political dealings.

India for its people
by Riverside on May 06, 2005 06:56 AM  Permalink

No need to lose sleep over gaining or loosing goodwill. Our decisions should only and always be guided by our national interests and we can change our decision any time in the interest of our nation. What a childish article...policy makers dont worry about the goodwill my dear, its a cruel world out there!

What is the author writting
by Gopal on May 06, 2005 06:26 AM  Permalink

I find it strange that Rediff has published such an article which has little weightage in terms of reality.

It appears to be more of an article on Democracy rather than reality.

Too poor to even comment more...Wish he(the auithor) knew the reality...

Fool's paradise
by Pathur S. Swaminathan on May 06, 2005 05:59 AM  Permalink

Praful,

Let the government in consultation with the opposition decide what is best for the country. Without the larger picture, your ramblings sound completely out of whack!

Though you are given space in rediff, I guess it has been done to strike a balance between reason and irrationality. Clearly you belong in the 2nd category. Sorry for being rude but I would like to suggest that you put your money where your mouth is and help in uplifting the millions of poor in India -- that will be better use of your time.

Highly Biased View ..
by venkat on May 06, 2005 05:12 AM  Permalink

The author forgets that India's moral and political responsibility is to safeguard its security and not to project itself as the guardian of democracy ! We are far better off with a monarchy in place rather than face any threat from maoists. It makes sense to prioritise the support the king against the maoists and work on a road map towards democracy ...

Its high time that we Indians start thinking and doing whats good for the nation and stop thinking about what others feel !

Whose interest should Indian diplomats put on high priority
by arun on May 06, 2005 04:32 AM  Permalink

In realpolitik, I believe that India\'s interest should be of more importance than ideals and egaletarian views. In that sense, engaging Nepal\'s goverment is a constructive option than letting them loose.

In any case maoists are a terrorist organisation and it should be treated and you must support opposite side.

Revolution by arms is a thing os the past - It probably was a valid approach in 1917. Not in 2005.

Arun
