The best thing on this film is they took some people from slums which our film industry will not even take for their servant jobs and given a chance to act. In our film's if this kind of story is taken the slum boys/gals will be some actor's/their relatives/VIP's son's/daughter's.
The SAG awards was for the ensemble cast. In my opinion the whole cast of the movie should have been there to accept the award when it was won. That is my only disappointment. I wish that besides Anil and Irfan and Dev and Freida , the other cast members also get to go to Oscars and walk the Red Carpet and get to see the City and be a part of the Oscars. That is the least the studio and the producers can do.
D. Goel afternoon, 3.40pm, Pkl. Wednesday, 4th Feb. 2009. the children like Azharuddin of Dharavi Slums are so blighted by poverty and diseased environment that despite the evil motives of Boyle and his peers to display the sordid and seamy side of indian lives , are some way mitigated , insofar they do throw a few nickels to let them that help getting some crayons, copy-books and something to eat ,once in a while. We have such callous neglect of our underclass despite political rhetoric of doing good to the Poor by all public figures aspiring for public office that these maligners from showbiz of the West seem to be christian evangelists. The perversity of indian social hypocrisy derves to be shamed before lads like Azharuddin of Dharvi do get a chance to get reasonable food and ,healthy environment and some Professional training to make themselves as life support to their indigent Family.D. have you ever been to dharavi.the only reason that the people from dharavi want outsiders to not come inside is bcos the actual face of dharavi might come out.it incorporates a multi million dollar leather export industry.most of the foodstuff that you relish from chaats to chikkis(Duplicates of the famous lonavla chikki)is manufactured there.wake up old man.
It is great movie but someway i am not conveniced. Story 2006 In this year there were four lifeline flip the questation is ommited. How jamal could reach to play without fastest finger? Jamal is pickedup by police at the interval of last question and been torture and Jamal is there to reply with sound mind and smile how? How host is concerned whether contestent win or loos and reality host and candidate never use same loo. Question was answer by host without asking as if he kows the questation. All cherecters are appeared well except Jamal and heroine. She change her mind as she realise he is going to win. Main problem is censor how censor has given certificate when smoking scens are there? It is great movie provided you donot think anything and enjoy poverty and courge of Jamal.

Ans... Even it has not been shown how he get in there. But there was a scene, where it has been shown that he is aware of when to dial the ph. number. It is obvious that he reached in KBC by playing the initial round. Also Director never claimed that he showed the show and the host, as it is. It is a story and has every logic that a normal man with a bit of common sense can understand....
Jamal is pickedup by police at the interval of last question and been torture and Jamal is there to reply with sound mind and smile how?
Because he is not an idiot like u. He faces lots of trouble in life. His reaction to the situation is not at all surprising..
How host is concerned whether contestent win or loos and reality host and candidate never use same loo. Question was answer by host without asking as if he kows the questation.
When Amitabh used to host KBK initially he was aware of the answers. But after a contestant won 1 crore tell that whenever he was about to tell wrong answer it reflected in Amitabh's face. Thereafter the answer had not been known to amitabh. Host are human beings and any kind of reaction is acceptable.
Abt loo?... how do u know?????
Herione has not changed her mind when he won it. Even when he was not in that show, she made an attempt to go with him in the railway station, where she got those enjury.

why did u go to loo when the movie was running, that was when jamal played fastest finger first. both contestant and the host went to same loo, cos u were there in the other one right..
Anil Kapoor reacting sarcastically as 'CHAI-WALA' and the audience joining him as if it was 'really funny' in the beginning scene is disappointing.
Everyone concerned, please respect all trades if u want to win everybody - to put it other way, uphold DIGNITY OF LABOR, please!
Almost every developed country has understood this golden concept. Hope India too would catch it very soon.
A.R.Rahman has displayed wonderful music for SDM but unfortunately, the screenplay is not justifying for most of the songs(PAPER PLANES in particular). Moreover, we don't see all the album songs in the English version.
I do hope they would include the full album in the Hindi version.

Anil Kapoor's character in this movie has been showed in a poor light. He is not a good person and accordingly he reacted.
why crying upon 'DIGNITY OF LABOR'..... BAD need to showed to bring out the good in it..

If you had watched the real Indian WWTBAM show hosted by Amitabh Bachchan you would realise that this is not a problem with the country but only a fictional approach of the film. Amitabh was courtesy personified irrespective of the status of the participant.
Great movie! It is amazing how much research Danny did to get everything right. If this movie was made by some Bollywoodian he would have taken those middle class kids who appear in every other advertisement to play the characters of slum dwellers Jamaal, Saleem and Latika.
99% movies made in India have a middle or upper class protagonist these days. Some of the sets are such which will make South Mumbai look like a slum. A foreiner makes a movie with a slum dweller as a protagonist and everyone cries foul. Living in a classist society we somehow fear that we will now be known in the world as a slum class. Its a shame that in a country where 65% people live in poverty poor people have no representation in celluloid stories. And if someone from abroad makes one we pounce on him.
The term underbelly is being used so often for the poor people that it has started sounding like an insult to the have-nots who represent a majority. 65% population is not an underbelly they are the nation. Just because they don't own the concrete of our cities and sleep on pavements and in slums doesn't mean they have nothing to do with India. Making a movie with one of them as the protagonist doesn't mean it is an insult to us. A foreigner has shown the mirror to Bollywood. While Bollywood keeps making movies with NRIs in mind a foreigner has made a truly global Bollywood movie which is worth all the praise it received by sane people.
Like many I too have nothing personal against the movies Slum..... But why India was chosen as the spot? Slums are even in US, China,Japan..!!!This continues from the time of Satyajit Ray.To show poverty, ugliness, injustice..Director could have shot the entire film in his own country even ! Repeated instances hurts sentiments of the nation.
Secondly, why the term DOG is used??Film could have been named SLUM"BOY" MILLIONAIRE instead.
Rediff should invite the opinion of its users for in favour/against the use of the term DOG and replacing the same with "BOY".

This is meant to show the European contempt for India. Wonder how many Oscar nominations it would have got had it been made by an Indian? Everything negative about India you can find in the film.

I understand that there are slums, ugliness, poverty and injustice in other parts of the world as well. The basic premise of the movie revolves around fate, destiny and true love for which India is well known. India is the land of destiny and thats why it was chosen as the location for the movie. Secondly the word slumdog is used as a synonym for underdog. I do not think there was any intentions of offending anyone in using this particular word in the movie title. The word slumdog is primarily used to illustrate that Jamal's is at a disadvantage to answer all the questions properly since he is not well educated.
