I wonder if all this hype would be there if someone like Loveleen Tandan (for that matter any Indian director)would have done this movie. Clearly not the best creation of Rahman (Taal and Dil-Se miles ahead) Good to see the western interest in India and the detailed research done in making the movie. Could have shown other good aspects as well, rather than sticking to the same old tale.

I totally agree with you! I am also an ardent fan of Rahman's music, and felt the same thing about all this recent news! The movie is no doubt very good, and the music is also good, but, there have been far better works of Rahman in the past that have not been recognized. It only shows the bias the Western awards have towards Western directors. Certainly, there have been better movies and music than Slumdog produced by entirely Indian teams which have not been recognized like this.

Its a terrific movie. A must watch for all Indians. Instead of all this complaining and whining about a westerner exposing our poverty to whole world ..why not we all unite and ensure that the govt and authorities take necessary steps to revamp our Slum so that Mumbai is a better place for all of us whether they are poor or Stars!! Disparity amongst rich and poor is so huge that immediate action is warranted!! Slumdog Millionaire is an excellent film based on the lives of the poor people of Mumbai. It is truly a master class well made by Danny Boyle and well music composed A.R.Rahman. Dev Patel and Freida Pinto have done an excellent job in this great movie. it deserves an Oscar.

The reason is because this is not normal Bollywood film where the hero and heroine dance around the trees and go to some foreign location and have romance there. Even other master pieces like Maqbool, Mr and Mrs Iyer have bombed in India as they were not the regular masala film.
